Month of Service: Giving back in EMEA
At ServiceNow, we’ve always been passionate about serving our customers and creating a better world. Embedded in our culture is a dedication to giving back.
In our annual Month of Service in October, we showed we can really walk the talk. ServiceNow employees in EMEA dedicated 7,080 hours to volunteering and donated $367,664 to ignite positive change in their communities.
It wouldn't be right not to properly celebrate our employees’ good deeds. So, let's take a moment to delve into some of the amazing contributions our teams have made to give back across the region.
Rising against hunger
Nearly one in 10 people worldwide go to bed hungry each night, according to Action Against Hunger. It makes sense, then, that addressing hunger was one of the biggest initiatives our employees got involved with.
Teaming up with Rise Against Hunger, more than 1,000 ServiceNow employees in the UK packaged 350,000 nutritious meals, bringing ServiceNow’s running total to more than 1 million meals.
Employees in Staines, UK, got hands-on in an assembly line and managed to pack 13,392 meals in two hours. Aside from the practical work, the event also included educational sessions to deepen the team’s understanding of the challenges surrounding world hunger.
Elsewhere, as part of their own initiatives, our Amsterdam teammates packed food parcels at Voedselbank. The team in Vienna also played their part by collecting food for Österreich Tafel.
Standing up for women’s health
With more than 2.3 million cases of breast cancer occurring each year, according to the World Health Organisation, our EMEA Women at ServiceNow employee belonging group has taken the issue head on.
Efforts to raise awareness—and funds—started with a virtual workshop in collaboration with Breast Cancer Ireland. The session was open to everyone and provided valuable teachings on the most common signs and symptoms for detecting early stages of breast cancer.
Our employees in France also took part in the fight against breast cancer. With a pastry competition and charity race devoted to Wear It Pink, staff managed to raise €4,900 for breast cancer research.
Protecting the environment
As a business, we care deeply about the environment. We're even working to operate at net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. So, it's no surprise that many of our employees spent their volunteer time improving our natural world.
In Amsterdam, efforts to clean up canals saw our local employees fish out eight garbage bags of plastic and general waste. Environmental deeds didn't stop there. Employees combined a rubbish collection initiative with a cultural tour around the southeast of Amsterdam as well. Teammates helped tidy up their city and gained a new appreciation for the area they live in.
Just across the border in Germany, environmental efforts took on a slightly sweeter note, as the Frankfurt office continued its commitment to wild beekeeping. With half the species of wild bees in Germany at risk of extinction, according to deutschland.de, employees checked up on bee colonies in NABU Rosbach to help preserve these precious insects.
In the wider DACH region, we joined forces with Glacier to make a stand against climate change. Teams across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland attended a Climate Hours event to learn how they can contribute to a greener future in their day-to-day lives.
The event ended with a quiz to demonstrate newly honed eco knowledge and offer the chance for our employees to earn their stripes as certified Climate Rangers. We’re proud to say that over 200 ServiceNow employees achieved this—and are now part of the Climate Ranger Community. It goes to show how committed our employees are to a sustainability-first mindset.
Helping those in need
Giving back to those in need goes hand in hand with our mission to invest in communities. The Italian team has championed that cause by volunteering to help those in Morocco affected by the Marrakech–Safi earthquake. In collaboration with Aiutility, our employees collected and donated emergency supplies including clothing, gauze, bandages, disinfectants, and baby items to provide vital support.
Employees in the UK&I, France, Germany, and the Netherlands launched their own separate efforts to donate T-shirts to underprivileged children. Those T-shirts will be repurposed into Christmas gift bags at the World Forum event series, complete with treats, and distributed to UNHCR and several charities throughout the EMEA region.
We’ve also taken steps to address the digital skills gap in Spanish schools. Our teams in Spain have organised computer collection days to empower students with tools to thrive in the digital future.
Making the world a better place
At ServiceNow, we believe a more sustainable, equitable, and ethical world is possible, and we want to be a driving force in achieving it. There’s no better place to start than at the heart of our communities, and we’re immensely proud of our teams for leading the charge.
