Ready for some Knowledge?

If you want to drive a black cab in London, you’ll need to pass one of the world’s toughest exams. Known as The Knowledge, it requires you to memorize about 320 routes and 25,000 streets, along with 20,000 landmarks. Candidates typically spend between two and four years studying for The Knowledge, an experience that’s been compared to having a London atlas imprinted on your brain.

If, on the other hand, you want to deepen your understanding of the ServiceNow platform, mingle with your peers, and learn from some of the smartest minds in tech, I hope to see you at our Knowledge18 user conference in Las Vegas.  You can dive deep in our training classes and workshops, meet experts in your industry, and check out the latest ServiceNow apps at our CreatorCon developer event.

Meanwhile I’m pleased to present the latest knowledge from our distinguished WorkflowTM  contributors. We feature a smart take on visualizing digital transformation from Brian Foster, global leader of the strategy practice on ServiceNow’s Inspire consulting team. Foster presents a simple framework to help business leaders meet the perennial challenge of aligning tech investments with business goals.

Also in this edition, Chris Null rounds up some of the best training opportunities in AI, data science, cybersecurity and more. Bob Violino reports on how DevOps pros are using AI tools to automate routine processes so that they can take on more strategic roles within their organizations.

We all know that work can be stressful, whether you’re driving strategy or drowning in office routine. Bob Parks reports that workplace stress is now the fifth‑leading cause of death in the U.S., and covers new emotional sensing tools that can help employees monitor and mitigate their own stress.

There’s a lot of knowledge in this edition of Workflow, and a whole lot more on display at Knowledge18. See you there.

Richard McGill Murphy is the editor in chief of Workflow. A journalist and social anthropologist by background, he runs a research and publishing program at ServiceNow that studies how emerging technologies are shaping the future of work.
