Building an inclusive AI future with ServiceNow
Industry-leading innovation isn’t just about what’s possible. It’s about seizing opportunities to improve experiences and working to create the optimal user experience for all.
An estimated 1.3 billion people worldwide live with disabilities, according to the World Health Organization. For that reason, digital accessibility needs to be at the forefront and core of every modern software experience.
Organizations should think about accessibility in the same way they think about security or performance and ensure it’s embedded into their overall product development process.
Accessibility built in
At ServiceNow, we’re making the world work better for everyone. We believe in creating digital experiences that are inclusive of all users, regardless of their abilities. Accessibility is woven into the ServiceNow Platform. All of our innovations align with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA standards.
Our commitment to accessibility extends beyond compliance. We continually add, update, and improve options and features on our platform and in our products to provide better accessibility to all users. And we’re dedicated to inclusive AI.
As AI continues to advance and transform the workplace, we’re capitalizing on the opportunity to make sure the accessibility of our platform and products evolves just as rapidly.
Our recent ServiceNow Platform Yokohama release is a prime example. Building on years of creating and honing accessibility features to ensure they’re usable, perceivable, operable, and robust, we introduced some new ones. Let’s look at a couple of them.
AI-powered voice input
Personal AI-powered smart devices have transformed voice recognition. Seeing a need for hands-free interactions on the ServiceNow Platform, we set out to create an AI-powered solution.
Voice input gives users hands-free control and access to our Now Assist generative AI capabilities. Users can interact with the Now Assist AI agent through the power of speech in natural language. This unlocks the productivity advantages of case summarization AI skills and AI-powered responses.
The skills from voice input are completed and displayed in the Now Assist panel. This helps ensure seamless, efficient, productive experiences for all.
Text Adjust
When an employee with dyslexia suggested a more customizable user interface for neurodivergent users, we designed Text Adjust. The Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge extension enhances readability and personalization for users with cognitive challenges and visual impairments.
Text Adjust gives users full control over their font style and text spacing. They can personalize the format of words and letters, line height, and paragraph spacing across platforms for a more inclusive digital experience. This feature earned us recognition among the Fast Company Best Workplaces for Innovators 2024.
As an act of good corporate citizenship, we’ve made the Text Adjust neurodiversity tool available in the ServiceNow Store at no cost to ServiceNow users.
Conclusion
Digital transformation should be accessible by design, not as an afterthought. The ServiceNow Platform is designed with all backgrounds, abilities, disabilities, and needs in mind. We’re proud to be one of Disability:IN’s 2024 Best Places to Work for Disability Inclusion.
