Recommended For You

The Recommended for You widget can use an ML algorithm based on an Employee profile or an HR Profile to show popular content accessed by users with similar profiles.

Recommended items are populated either based on ML or the popularity of items based on your license entitlements. The underlying table for calculating similar users is determined by the Employee Profile or HR profile.

 

Popular Topics

Popular Topics widget highlights the most popular topics on the Employee Center home page.

 

Cross-channel Favorites

Employees can view and access their favorited content directly from the My Favorites widget on the Employee Center home page or from the My Favorites link on the global navigation bar.​

Favorites are enabled for these content types: Requests, Knowledge Articles, News Articles, Topic Pages & Applications.

  1. What Employee Center widgets are associated with Content Recommendation?

There are two widgets on the Employee Center that can associate with Content Recommendation:

  • ‘Recommended for you’: This widget highlights the most relevant catalog items and knowledge articles for the employee
  • ‘Popular topics’: This widget highlights the most popular topics on the Employee Center home page.

  1. What’s the difference between the old “Relevant for you” widget, available before the Rome release, and the new “Recommended for you” widget available with Employee Center?

With the Employee center release in Rome, the “relevant for you” widget was enhanced to the “recommended for you” widget. Below are the changes made:

Behavioral change: Old widget shows 3 Catalog items and 3 Knowledge items with their headers. Now there is no separation between knowledge and Catalog. The old widget could only show Catalog items or knowledge articles based on the popularity of the items. The new widget can use an ML algorithm-based Employee Profile or HR Profile to show popular content accessed by users in similar profile.

Visual change: Old widget has only one visual representation of items in the list view while showing only the title. The new widget has a card view with carousal (title, description, image(catalog item)) and a simple list view of only titles.

Availability change: The old widget was only available with Employee Service Center. The new widget is available for all customers via Employee Center. It doesn’t require Employee Center Pro license.

 

  1. What is the recommendation logic used with ‘Recommended for you’ widget?

In general, this widget highlights the most viewed knowledge article and most requested catalog items across all employees (for a time period defined in the instance options by the portal administrator)

For customers who have Predictive Intelligence license and have it activated in their instance, this widget will use the similarity framework applied on the Employee’s profile to make the content recommendation.

  1. What is the recommendation logic used with the ‘Popular topics’ widget?

We define "popular" topics as topics that contain content (catalog or knowledge) that have higher popularity. For a catalog item, popularity is the number of times it was requested and for a knowledge article, it is the number of times it was viewed. The popularity of a topic is the aggregation of the popularity of all the content under a topic.

Popularity is calculated based on a daily scheduled job that looks at the entire history, since the day Employee Center was turned on the instance and across all users in the instance.

 

 

  1. Can we modify the ML algorithm used for the ‘Recommended for you’ widget?

Yes, you can create your own machine learning framework and train it. Follow the predictive Intelligence product docs for more information on how to achieve this.

 

 

  1. Can we tweak the algorithm used for ‘Popular topics’?

The Popular Topics widget does not provide the option to tweak the recommendation algorithm. It will be customization if you choose to do so.

 

 

  1. Are the “recommended for you” and “Popular topics” available on mobile?

Yes, they both are available on the Now Mobile application. Refer to Mobile experience for Employee Center to learn more.
