Session Code: LAB1313
Presenter(s): Mohammad, Abed
Company(s): ServiceNow, ServiceNow
Abstract:
In order to get the most out of ITOM Event Management, it's important to have proper association of incoming alerts to their corresponding CIs (CI binding). Proper binding is key in determining the impact of an alert, automatically grouping associated alerts, and determining root cause.
While basic CI binding to hosts is supplied out of the box, binding to other types of CIs, such as applications, devices, network adapters, and other CI types often requires authoring rules. Using an incorrect strategy for CI binding can easily result in hundreds of rules and a frustrated administrator.
In this session, we'll present best practices in creating rules, and also cover use cases in which advanced scripts should be employed. These practices and advanced strategies are based on work on multiple customer issues and are meant to help create a minimal set of rules to achieve maximum CI binding.
