My Journey as a ServiceNow MVP

Reflecting on where my career began, I can’t help but feel both amazed and grateful for the growth I’ve experienced alongside the ServiceNow platform. My adventure started at a service desk in a financial institution, where I enhanced my skills by solving tickets and learning the essentials of IT support. While it was a solid foundation, I wanted more - I wanted to dive deeper and understand the systems behind the ticketing tool.

That opportunity came, when I joined Computacenter as a trainee in consulting. Suddenly, I wasn’t just troubleshooting, I was involved in crafting solutions, making a real impact for customers. Right from day one, I absorbed the fundamentals of consulting and the ins and outs of the ServiceNow platform. It felt like I had stepped into a vibrant new world where innovation and technology met to transform the way people work.

Opening Doors: The Meetup That Started It All

A pivotal moment in my ServiceNow journey came when I launched the ServiceNow Developer Meetup in Düsseldorf, which we now call the ServiceNow Developer Meetup Rheinland. To be honest, I was a bit nervous at first - would anyone actually show up? To my surprise, they did, and what began as a small gathering at the Christmas Market in Düsseldorf with Lisa and Ronny (shoutout to both of you!), quickly turned into a forum for meaningful discussions, shared learning, and authentic connections.

While we may not be the largest chapter, our size is our greatest asset. This familiarity allows us to delve into topics in depth, exchange ideas openly, and walk away from each session enriched with new insights. Hosting this community has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my ServiceNow journey.

Consistency is Key - Becoming an MVP

On a rainy day at the beginning of the year, I opened an email that brought incredible news: I had been selected as an ServiceNow MVP. This recognition wasn’t just a shiny badge, it felt like an invitation into a global community filled with passionate and talented individuals.

Since then, I’ve had the privilege of connecting with amazing people from around the world. Every meetup has expanded my horizons, deepened my understanding of the platform, and improved my role at Computacenter, as well as my personal growth.

Why Community Matters

In the early days of my career, the ServiceNow Community was my go-to resource for learning the basics. Today, it’s where I push myself to push my knowledge further. What I love about this ecosystem is its strong foundation in sharing knowledge across various modules, roles, and cultures.

Throughout this journey, I’ve forged connections that go beyond the platform itself. I’ve met MVPs like Jerry from Birmingham, and those relationships remind me that this journey is about more than just technology. It’s about people helping one another, sharing the same passion.

Lessons I’ve Learned

  • Sharing knowledge is crucial. Knowledge isn’t meant to be kept a secret, it’s meant to build bridges.
  • Consistency triumphs over perfection. Celebrate even the small wins!
  • Find your own path. Authenticity resonates stronger than trying to conform.

Looking Ahead

As I look to the future, I’m eager to focus on lifting others up. I want to empower more people in the ServiceNow ecosystem to become Rising Stars or MVPs themselves. Coaching, mentoring, and helping others discover their full potential is where I find the greatest accomplishment.

And of course, I’m excited about what lies ahead for the platform. Bringing people together, showcasing the power of ServiceNow, and working toward a shared vision - "Put AI to Work".

Final Thoughts

Becoming an MVP has been an incredible honor, but the real story goes beyond the title. It’s about the journey, those late nights spent learning, the small victories that built momentum, the meetups where strangers became collaborators, and the community that turned into a family.

If you’re just starting your journey, here’s my advice: be consistent, share your story, and never underestimate the impact of even the smallest contribution. You never know who you might inspire or where your journey might lead you. And last, but not least, I want to take a moment to express my thanks to Marvin, my co-host of the Developer Meetup, for nominating me.
