Question regarding Agile board - Sprint planning tab: how flexible is this page to configure?

For example, someone in class asked if we can show less number of sprint or can the backlog list be sorted by Priority or Order fields so most critical/important stories can show up first? thanks!

Hey Greg,

Our Org uses SN for "IT work" (incidents, requests, projects, etc.) but our development team is using JIRA. We've been wanted to move them into SN however, JIRA has a very robust interface to:

  • track a variety of task types (Story, enhancement, defect, technical task, testing task... etc.)
  • Linking issues with different dependencies (is blocked by, blocks, duplicate...).

As a scrum master for one of our teams, I've also found the Scrum board providing more detail at-a-glance.

That being said, this was all before SN introduced Agile 2.0 -- This is a huge improvement from the original SDLC development tools they had before.

Thanks for answer!

Yes, that is my take as well. The buildup of ServiceNow PPS is pretty rigid and not that allowing to change as you like without crashing some functions related to the part you just changed.

My hope with the question was more in line with examples of some changes that you have seen to give an idea on what are possible and wanted flexibility in PPS.

Update: here is some more info about how to enable accessibility features:

One pretty common request is to put custom workflow around project changes.

We also get a lot of requests in the test management space around creating traceability to tie stories to tests, some automation around test plans/test cases behavior.

Also, notifications. There are very few (if any) baseline notifications related to project.

thanks, wonder if PPM/Scrum are covered under the same license. But that is for sales..

I've been looking for options to configure this page and I am not finding anything. I'm going to keep looking, but it appears that that (without custom coding) the interface is pretty set.  If I find more I will update this post.

@Shannon - you asked about baselining resource plans...In the resource plan you can track planned cost, allocated cost, and actual cost against that plan...this MAY help address your request to compare planned vs actual.

I would recommend to let your developers to keep using Jira, because it has capabilities more suited for developers than what ServiceNow provides today.

The thing I see many organisations do is integrate ServiceNow and Jira, you can use the new Jira Spoke as part of the Integration HUB in Madrid (requires additional licensing).

You probably have the intake channel for Ideas/Demands in the ServiceNow Self Service portal and Service Catalog. You can then generate user stories from either system and keep them in sync (basically, if a story is created in Jira, you can get those into ServiceNow using the Jira Spoke and then in ServiceNow add it into a project or to an enhancement).

I would start with the end to end vision and goals though, but trying to get developers to leave Jira is usually a political and religious debate you do not want to get involved in.

Errata - Lab 6.1, page 324, missing step between 18 and 19 - need to have them go back to the Resources tab in order to see the Action button displayed in step 19 #Amel #curriculumerrate

Regarding partial allocations:

You can allocate a resource plan for a specific period instead of allocating the resource plan for full duration. The resource plan is called partially allocated and is represented by a hollow circle screenshot for Partial Allocation Icon in State cell in resource grid. For a group and role resource plan, you can partially allocate at user level too. (This is done on the Allocation Workbench.) In the resource grid section, right-click the Conf/Alloc cell for the required month. Select Allocate. The option is available only for a Confirmed resource plan.

ServiceNow joined the SAFe bandwagon! I had a Madrid demo which shows the SAFe "Big room view"

https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/madrid-it-business-management/page/product/agile-SAFe/task/perfor...

It doesn't appear to be enabled in the classroom instance which is a bummer.

I don't have experience with either yet to advise one way or the other ...

You can activate this plugin here in the training instance if you want to take a peek. Go to System Definition > Plugins. Search for the Agile - Scaled Agile Framework - Essential SAFe plugin.

I'd like a pointer to how to integrate MS Outlook calendars with my ServiceNow calendar.

howardrichter

Based upon on my questions on different user calendars.

I would need more info on the outlook integration (also if there is one for teams) and how to only have one user calendar for resources to be scheduled for project work and the OOB on-call scheduler.

I can not see users maintaining two (or more) calendars in ServiceNow, as well as other tools. As far as PTO and other events when the user would not be available for on-call or project work.

One caution about integrating with Outlook...This integration could potentially be messy. Do you want to pull ALL events into SN? If so, that will not be a true reflection of capacity as many times we keep things on our calendar that are related to project work (meetings, etc).  While this conceptually sounds like a good idea it is worth considering the pros and cons of doing so.

This is a starting point: https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/madrid-servicenow-platform/page/administer/notification/reference/r_CalendarIntegration.html

There is more that needs to be done, but this is at least a first step.

There are some third party tools that can pick and choose what to integrate in the Outlook interface. This may be worth considering as well.

Sharon Gaudino

Please see my comment to the question above about the Calendar integration.

Regarding MS Teams integration...yes, this is a relatively easy integration using Spokes.

Here’s some documentation about that: https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/madrid-servicenow-platform/page/administer/integrationhub/reference/microsoft-teams-spoke.html

Thanks.  Not all events! At this point I would prefer to have something like an Add to ServiceNow button or checkbox so that I can select within Outlook to add it to the ServiceNow calendar.  OR, if it's added within ServiceNow something that would allow me to add it to my Outlook calendar.  Either way would work.  I'll take a look at the link you sent.

Did all of the preconfigured data used in this class come from the plugin demo data, or is it customized for the course?

Just wondering if I can go through this material again on my test instance after I get back home.

Probably a dumb question, but what would keep an allocated resource plan from hitting the resource's My Calendar?

Sharon Gaudino

The data in our training instance is specific to this course. You can try exporting the Update Sets and dump them into your developer instance. It might not be 100% in alignment with the step-by-step instructions for each lab but it will get you pretty close. To do this: 1) Navigate to System Update Sets > Local Update Set 2) Open each of the three PPM User Administration update sets and choose Export to XML for each one 3) Navigate to the developer instance 4) Navigate to System Update Sets > Retrieved Update Sets 5) Click Import Update Set from XML and import the update sets from above (make sure you do them in the same order that they were created in the training instance) Just a reminder: these instance expire tonight around 8:00 Pacific time.

Nothing that I know of. Once a resource plan has been allocated, it will show up on the user’s My Calendar (assuming of course a specific user has been identified).

Where can I find information for PPM on mobile app?

My company is relatively new to NOW, just 6 months in.  I am preparing to guide my company through Demand and Resource implementation and seeking best practices/success stories on how to establish portfolios for successful resource management and forecasting in my IT Engineering area.  Current plan is to group by Business Processes.

Hello everyone,

From the Status Reports related list, one can choose to export a status report as a PDF (click on additional actions icon and choose Export PDF). Does anyone know how to keep the formatting? In the PDF copy, all of the formatting is gone.

Thanks,

Charisse

Not sure if anyone is still monitoring the group, but I had a question and thought I'd ask.

When a project slips, I want to account for it in the resource allocation.  I notice that if use "Extend Resource Plan"  It creates a 0 hour allocation for the resources covering the extended period.

For the couple of times I used it, I have been manually editing the allocations to shift the hours as needed.  Is this the best way to do it?

I just tried it and export for the PDF is formatted.  It doesnt look like it does on the web page and is a little ugly.  Attaching a copy so you see what I mean.

CGreen

I see. I probably should have said that some of the formatting is gone, not all. I attached an example. You can see that the bullets disappear.

Hey everyone, hope you are all still absorbing the information from this training.  K19 was great.

I do have a question about cost plans with Demand to Project.  I had cost plans on a demand of type Other Capex and Labor Capex (created by resource plans.)  When the Demand was approved, and project created from the Demand, the Other Capex cost plans stayed on the Demand, the Resource Plans and their associated Labor Capex records moved to the Project.  Is there any way we can get the other Cost Plans to the project?  Should it have done it automatically?
