How to Contextualize "Journeys"

We have just completed a research study where all our participants struggled to understand what "On Journey" or "Journey" means. Does anyone have suggestions or recommendations on how to contextualize this concept/word to a global demographic of users who will not have a SME explaining it to them live when they are navigating on their own. How do we explain what "journey" actually means?

I guess we should ask what journey means to you.
From my perspective a journey is a users path to success. Describing it to them as their path to discovering what they need, how they get their goals. Whether it is a dictated path (such as onboarding) or a self serve solution where they search in their own way (knowledge articles to perhaps a catalog item).
I don't know if you can have just one word to tell your story globally.

@szarrini I assume you are referring to the term "journey" within the Employee Journey Management product?

If so, I'd suggest cross posting this in the Employee Center or HR Service Delivery product hubs. You may get more views from folks working with the product in those spaces.
