Create Indoor Mapping icons and place types
To manage places and place types in Indoor Mapping Map Studio, start with creating icons for places, and then create a place type.
Before you begin
- Name
- Icon
- Color (in case of a polygon)
Role required: map admin, map editor, map editor limited
Procedure

Navigate to All > Indoor Mapping > icons.
The Indoor Mapping icons page appears. To edit an existing icon select an icon and apply your edits.
- Select New to create new icons.

Complete the following information on the new icon record page:
- Name: Name of the icon.
- Image file: Select and add an image file to be used as icon image.

Title: Image title to download the icon as a PNG
file.
The size of the image is automatically adjusted to right size and shape by the Indoor Mapping Map Studio.
- Active: The icon must be active to appear in the studio and on your building to add value and differentiate your place types on the map.

Click Update.
The new icon for Indoor Mapping place type is created.

After creating the icons, you need to create the Place Types.
Place Types are displayed with your Icon on the Map Studio to differentiate places on the map.
- Navigate to All > Indoor Mapping > Place Types.

Select New to create a new Place Type record.
On the form, fill in the fields
Table 1. Place type Field Description Name Define the name of the place type. Default marker icon Search and select the required icon from the list. Default stroke color Color you want the Place Type to display on the Map Studio. Put the hash (#) symbol for the hexadecimal color for Map Studio to recognize and differentiate (Only available for polygons). For example: #008000 for Green color.
Default stroke opacity For the opacity, select a range between 0 and 1 (Only available for polygons) Here '0' denotes transparent and '1 'denotes opaque.
Default stroke width The thickness of the outline or stroke of your place type. Default polygon display This option is enabled by default. Clear the selection if you want the place type to appear as a point on the map. A polygon will present the surface of a room, for example, meeting rooms or any other closed room. The point is used to represent a place that is not fixed or to represent a place that is not in a closed room like a resting place or a telephone.
Default title display Option to display the title of the place type on the Map Studio. Default marker display Select this option to display the icon of your place type on the Map Studio. Active Option to activate or deactivate or turn off the place types on maps. Turning off the place type will not remove the place type. It will be just inactive on your map, and there will be no points of interest in the map.

Click Submit.
After the settings are saved, you can see the list of campuses and buildings for which the place type is active.
- To set up your new Place Type, navigate to All > Indoor Mapping > Map Studio.

Select a campus and select Manage places to add and edit
places.
