ServiceNow is one of the first signatories to the European Union's General-Purpose AI Code of Practice, joining a group of leading technology companies committed to responsible AI development. This voluntary code helps companies demonstrate compliance through clear standards for transparency, copyright protection, and safety.

Why this matters

The EU AI Act represents the world's first comprehensive AI regulation. The Code of Practice offers organisations a structured way to meet certain requirements that make general-purpose AI (GPAI) models more transparent and verifiable. This gives ServiceNow customers confidence that Now Assist and our other AI capabilities are built with governance at their core.

The Code of Practice focuses on practical measures that matter to enterprises, including detailed model documentation requirements, data provenance and lineage tracking, structured risk assessment protocols, and systematic bias detection and mitigation procedures.

Compliance with the Code of Practice requires clear documentation about how AI models work, what data they use, and what safeguards are in place. For ServiceNow customers, this means the AI capabilities you rely on come with the transparency and accountability that regulators expect and our stakeholders demand.

Our commitment in practice

We're committed to aligning our existing responsible AI practices with European standards. We already maintain comprehensive model documentation, implement copyright safeguards, and conduct regular safety evaluations. The Code of Practice provides a recognised framework for organising and presenting this work.

This builds on our broader approach to AI governance. ServiceNow products such as AI Control Tower and Now Assist Guardian already help enterprises manage AI deployment with appropriate oversight. Our model cards document our AI capabilities and limitations. Our signature on the Code of Practice formalises these practices within an internationally recognised standard.

What this means for customers

By signing the Code of Practice, ServiceNow is establishing trust through transparent, documented governance practices, including model documentation, data lineage tracking, and systematic risk assessment frameworks.

When customers deploy Now Assist, they're using AI with verifiable governance standards. This makes it easier to demonstrate responsible AI use to regulators, boards, and stakeholders.

The standardised documentation we're developing will facilitate existing governance processes. Whether you're conducting risk assessments, preparing for audits, or answering stakeholder questions about AI safety, you'll have clear, consistent documentation based on Code of Practice standards to support your position.

Moving forward

The Code of Practice represents an important step in building trust in our models. By signing, ServiceNow demonstrates that we're not just talking about responsible AI. We’re committing to verifiable standards that benefit our customers and the broader ecosystem.

ServiceNow remains committed to building AI that’s transparent, accountable, and designed to augment human potential while respecting fundamental rights.
