UI page reference field - Enable search via serial number

I have created an UI page and added a reference field via HTML, I have attached the code for your reference.

<g:ui_reference name="asset_id" id="asset_id" table="alm_hardware" completer="AJAXTableCompleter" columns="display_name"/>

My expectation is to search for a record based on the serial number. To achieve it, I have made the display as true for the serial number field in the table level. Can you please let me know if there are any other configurations available in HTML level to achieve it. I have attached the screenshot for your reference.
