Community Tips and Insights for Introverts at CreatorCon 2024

As an introvert, the prospect of diving into a bustling conference might seem a tad overwhelming. The idea of networking for days at a time, to me, feels anxiety-inducing and tiring.

Below I’ll outline some helpful tips and tricks, including some from the experiences of some of our Community experts. Hopefully with this advice in your back pocket, you'll navigate CreatorCon with ease and confidence, embracing the opportunity for growth and connection.

  1. Craft Your Plan: Before diving into the whirlwind of CreatorCon, take a moment to craft your game plan. Our Agenda Builder will go-live later this week, so utilize that tool to review your plan, identify sessions that pique your interest, and map out your personalized itinerary. By setting intentions and priorities, you'll approach the event with a sense of purpose and direction. Plus, you give yourself time to rest and recover, which brings me into my next points.
  2. Start Small: Begin your CreatorCon journey by dipping your toes into smaller, more intimate sessions and networking opportunities. These cozy settings provide the perfect backdrop for forging genuine connections and engaging in meaningful conversations. Remember, it's the quality, not the quantity, of interactions that truly matters.
  3. Embrace Time for Relaxation: Amidst the hustle and bustle of CreatorCon, don't forget to carve out time for solitude and reflection. Don’t feel like you need to attend everything to have a successful experience. Seek out quiet corners, take a break at your hotel room, or go for a walk outside the venue and listen to some music while recharging your batteries and savoring moments of introspection. These retreats are your sanctuaries amidst the hustle and bustle of Knowledge and CreatorCon.
  4. Nurture Your Well-being: As you immerse yourself in the CreatorCon experience, remember to prioritize your well-being. Stay hydrated, nourished, and well-rested to sustain yourself throughout the event. Take breaks as needed, practice mindfulness techniques, and listen to your body's signals with care and compassion.
  5. Leverage Technology: Harness the power of technology to enhance your CreatorCon adventure. Engage with fellow attendees through social media platforms or online forums, cultivating connections and camaraderie from afar.
  6. Cultivate Meaningful Connections: Seek out individuals who share your passions and interests, and nurture authentic relationships through genuine conversations and shared experiences. Remember, it's the depth of connection that leaves a lasting impression.
  7. Reflect on Your Experience: As CreatorCon draws to a close, take a moment to celebrate your growth, resilience, and courage in navigating the vibrant tapestry of the event. Allow yourself time to reflect, recharge, and savor the memories of your CreatorCon journey.

Now, don’t just take it from me. We’re a Community, after all, so take a read through some of the advice our ServiceNow Experts have given.

2024 ServiceNow MVP Jesalyn Smith finds it easiest to focus on building one-on-one relationships, instead of trying to navigate larger groups.

“If I approach this as trying to be friendly, and getting to know the people I am working with, it manages to not even feel like networking to me,” Jesalyn wrote in her WomenNow blog post titled “4 Tips on Networking for Introverts.”

Admittedly, it’s tough to get over the fear of being incorrect. Still, Jesalyn recommends to never be afraid to share your knowledge (get it?) or expertise. She also thinks it's a good idea to try finding yourself a mentor.

“This also shows the community that you’re willing to learn and become a better contributor over time, and people take notice of things like this," Jesalyn wrote.

Another great tip comes from 2024 ServiceNow MVP Nia McCash, who wrote "An Introvert’s Guide to Knowledge” ahead of Knowledge 2023.

McCash advises that, in addition to attending the events that peak your interest within the official event agenda, you should create your own events.

Nia also recommends scheduling something fun and relaxing, like a spa treatment, a good meal, a shopping excursion, or some time by the hotel pool.
