Change Velocity - Pull in extra ADO Fields

I've set up ADO as a tool, but want to pull in some extra fields from ADO not covered in the OOTB layout (e.g. a description field on work item). Is there an easy mechanism to do this, or does it involve customisation? I've looked for a mapping mechanism similar to when you try to set up a custom tool, but haven't been able to find anything for the OOTB ADO offering. I notice the table inside SN that stores work item data contains dedicated fields for work item data, rather than drawing from a mapping table somewhere. Anyone tried to do this?

I would be interested in knowing success stories here. I've been trying to work with record transformers but still a bit confused.
