Is there any way to not have the KB article number incremented every time version is changed?

I've just modified my KB versioning property to show versions when I'm editing a KB article. The problem is that this causes the KB article number to change when you publish. that it is not OOB behavior, how can I find out what's causing this in my system and how can I fix it?

Did you install the plugin for the versioning?

OOB, the article number should remain same.

Yes I installed the plugin, ServiceNow installed it for me on my instance

I didnt find anything. I would suggest creating a ServiceNow support case for this.
