On a current project, we're looking at ways to use Taxonomy records to display specific content at the right places on the portal. This post is really just some food for thought on one way we're looking to do that. The idea is that the overall portal would have a regular attached taxonomy, in this case our Company A portal has a list of locations through a 'Company A' taxonomy setup. That would be displayed at the top of the page in the mega menu area.
Selecting a location value from that primary menu takes you to that Taxonomy page as expected. The breadcrumbs are then linked into the taxonomy tree related to locations.
But maybe we want the Human Resources icon link to point to another page within a different Taxonomy record. In this case, the Icon link on the main page is pointing at the Human Resources Taxonomy page within the out of the box Employee Taxonomy. The link was set up as a URL type, pointing at ?id=emp_taxonomy_topic&topic_id=8dffa608c3203010069aec4b7d40dd56. The breadcrumbs are automatically readjusted to point back to the main landing page when clicked.
Depending on your requirements for the portal, this approach could be a way to provide the employee experience you're looking for.
