What is the difference between the Employee Center and the Service Portal

Hello,

I am looking at customizing our Service Portal to change the look and feel of navigating through it. While doing research I ran across the Employee Center, and I remember seeing this announcement some time ago. The questions I have today is what are the major differences between the Employee Center and Service Portal? Is Employee Center replacing the Service Portal? Is it recommended to migrate to the Employee Center? What are the advantages of using the Employee Center over the Service Portal?

I know that there is an Employee Center Pro version that is licensable, but I am more interested in the differences between the Employee Center Basic version and the Service Portal.
