Overview

In standard Reporting there was an increasing number of dashboards -or homepages if we date back to the origins of ServiceNow- created over the time. People often built their own dashboards, sometimes even disregarding the out-of-the-box ones that already existed and could have met their needs. To prevent this situation, ServiceNow introduced the Certified flag, which allows us to distinguish between dashboards that have been validated as useful and recommended by the company, and those custom dashboards created by individuals for their own purposes.

Where to find the Dashboards that have been “Certified”

If you haven’t seen my previous article talking about how to create your first Platform Analytics Dashboard and Visualizations feel free to have a look at it here, as it is the dashboard I will be certifying.

First of all, let’s go to Platform Analytics > Analytics Center as shown below:

Then we can click on the “Certified” tab to check out which Dashboards are already “Certified”. Bear in mind there are a few out-of-the-box Dashboards already certified.

Certifying our Dashboards

Now that we know how to show them, we see how easy it is to flag our Dashboards as certified. Before we proceed, ensure you have the “dashboard_admin” role, as this is the role required to do so.

Within the Analytics Center we can click on “View all” under “Bookmarked”

We need to find it then either by using the predefined filters or entering its name in the search bar. In my case, given I owned the “KPI” Dashboard created in the article mentioned above, I will click on “Owned by me”:

Then we need to click on it and click on “Edit” button located at the top-right corner. Then we need to click on the “(i)” icon to edit its related information:

Among all the configuration options we can see, there is one that says “Mark as certified” which is the one we need to click on.

As soon as we click on it the “Certified” flag appears next to the name:

Now we need to “Save” it and it will start appearing under the “Certified” section we mentioned above.
