In the last few years I've worked with a number of customers who have asked the same question, relating to the mobile applications: "Can you switch between multiple instances in the mobile app?".

The answer was always, not really, no. Sure, you could create multiple connections in the application to your different instances but moving between them was cumbersome. You had to sign out of the app completely, then select another instance, and sign back in - providing your credentials again. If you wanted then to move back to the original instance, you had to repeat the process again. Not the kind of thing you are likely to ask fulfillers to do, and certainly not end users who use Now Mobile.

Well, the Utah release brings with it the capability to switch quickly and easily between instances without the need to logout!

Dive into the settings from the app, select instances, pick the one you want to move to and you're done.

There are plenty of people who'll be very happy about this. Although the use cases for customers having separate production ServiceNow instances are limited, they do exist. And for those customers, fulfillers who must operate on both can now switch quickly between instances.

End users could too, though I think that is unlikely to be well received by them. End user apps aim to bring all services and information into a single place for them to consume and interact with. Just as you wouldn't want to have separate portals in the platform for end users to interact with, you wouldn't want them to be moving back and forwards choosing instances in their mobile app either.

The feature is perhaps most useful for administrators and developers. Even in an organisation with a single production environment, you can switch rapidly between dev, test and production in your agent app, or now mobile app to validate.

It's simple, and I love it.
