It's time for one hell of a spring clean

If like us you didn't start your ITSM implementation with a nice, new, shiny, clean CMDB (if such a thing actually exists?!) then when you come to the point you are ready to define how your assets and configuration items SHOULD work, you will no doubt be faced with a whole load of "stuff" that needs consolidating, cleansing, verifying and/or shuffling into a better place.

Well that's where we are now....

After spending much of 2012 defining how we should use our CMDB and what attributes we should capture for each of our 20,000+ items we have in there, we came up with a new Verification process which allows us to continue using the existing CIs but forces the service owners to clean up and validate all components that need to be managed in order to deliver their IT Service.

To help in this process we developed a new tool that has proven to be very useful indeed!
