Ask, and you shall receive… an answer to the most common ServiceNow question on Google!   Many of you have been searching for information about this error message: "Cannot obtain the required interface from OLE DB provider 'MSDASQL' for linked server."   We've researched the issue, and there's now an available fix!

linked server 7303.png

There are issues associated with multiple versions of the ODBC Driver, specifically ServiceNow-ODBC-32-bit_1.0.5, ServiceNow-ODBC-64-bit_1.0.5, ServiceNow-ODBC-64-bit_1.0.7, and ServiceNow-ODBC-32-bit_1.0.7. These errors occur when a user is attempting to set up a linked server. However, the errors do not appear to exist in the previous versions, ServiceNow-ODBC-32-bit_2013-09-06-1413 or ServiceNow-ODBC-64-bit_2013-09-06-1413. After downgrading the ODBC driver to a version without a known error, users were able to query successfully.

Downgrading is no longer the only option. There's good news for all who've experienced this issue! There's a new fix outlined in these Release Notes, that is suggested for all ServiceNow versions.
