Hola Community,
I’m Hardit Singh and I am currently working as a ServiceNow Architect and someone who strongly believes in learning by building, not just watching or reading.
How It Started
Like many of you, I started my journey as a ServiceNow developer with very little clarity. I followed ServiceNow Wiki (yes, I am a dinosor) , prepared for certifications, and tried to understand the platform piece by piece.
But very early on, I realized something important:
What you learn in documentation is very different from what you face in real projects.
That gap changed everything for me.
What I Create Today?
Today, I create content focused on:
• Real-world ServiceNow use cases
• Development best practices
• IRM (GRC) concepts explained simply
• Integrations and architecture thinking
My goal is simple — help you think like a problem solver, not just a platform user.
My Biggest Learnings
Over the years, a few lessons have stayed with me:
1. Real learning starts when things break
Projects teach you more than any course ever will. Debugging, fixing, and understanding failures is where real growth happens.
2. Don’t just learn features — understand the “why”
Why are we using a business rule here? Why not a flow? Why this data model?
These questions separate developers from architects.
3. End-to-end thinking is a superpower
Understanding how Incident, Change, CMDB, Integrations, and Risk connect gives you a huge edge.
4. Consistency beats intensity
Small daily progress compounds more than occasional bursts of motivation.
Mistakes I Made (So You Don’t Have To)
1. Focusing too much on certifications early on
Certifications are useful, but they don’t guarantee real-world skills. I learned this the hard way.
2. Ignoring integrations initially
I stayed too long in “platform-only” comfort. In reality, most projects revolve around integrations.
3. Building without understanding design
I used to jump straight into development without thinking about scalability or maintainability.
4. Not asking enough questions
Early in my career, I hesitated to ask “basic” questions — which slowed my growth.
Why I Keep Sharing
I share because I’ve been on the other side — confused, stuck, and trying to figure things out alone.
If my content can:
• Help someone understand faster
• Avoid common mistakes
• Or gain confidence in their journey
…it’s worth it.
Also, teaching has been one of the best ways for me to learn deeper and stay sharp.
My Advice for Newbies
If you’re starting your ServiceNow journey:
Don’t just learn but build
• Create real-life scenarios
• Simulate project use cases
• Break things and fix them
Focus on:
• End-to-end flows
• Integrations
• Data understanding (CMDB, CSDM)
And most importantly:
Stay consistent. This platform rewards those who keep showing up.
Final Thought
ServiceNow is not just a tool — it’s a platform where you can build, solve, and grow endlessly.
If you focus on real skills over shortcuts, you’ll go much further than you think.
