Get ready for the sleeping giant to awake everyone! UI Builder is going to hit with a big splash in the Quebec release!
Some of you may have a little experience with UIB as it has been a part of the platform since Orlando, however ServiceNow made an intentional decision to skip a release and take their time building out the UIB capability (over 100 components now!) in order to allow customers to take full advantage of its power starting with Quebec.
UI Builder is ServiceNow's WYSIWYG web user interface builder. The terminology you'll hear going forward are 'experiences'. UI Builder will be used to build 'portal experiences' and 'workspace experiences'. Are you 'old' enough to remember the switch from CMS portals to service portals? Get ready for another changing of the guards. Experiences are the future of user interfaces on the NOW platform.
When the transition to service portals happened, it left many SN devs in the dust as we weren't up to speed with AngularJS. Some of us were able to bootstrap 😉 ourselves up and learn a new programming language and others were not. Count me in the 'not' column. It created a small number of service portal specialists, leaving the masses of SN developers and admins on the side lines. Get ready to get back in the game folks. UIB doesn't rely on AngularJS or any other new programming language.
It's an exciting world ahead for us developers. My next several blog posts will take a deeper look into the cool capabilities of this new technology stack on the NOW platform.
