I recently configured the walk up experience in Yokohama in order to be able to demonstrate the new Appointment Booking (IT and HR) in the Employee Center and wanted to describe the process, and how straightforward getting started with it is.
I already had an instance with the majority of the Employee Center and HR plugins enabled - having previously used it to demo both Employee Relations and Enterprise capabilities.
The first thing I need to do therefore is to install the walk-up experience by activating the Walk-Up experience plugin.
Although the docs call out several other steps; checking the Employee Center even at this stage shows I now have a quick link to schedule an appointment - in the Human Resources taxonomy. When I try and access either of these options though, I hit a brick wall.
So lets carry on with the config. The next step should be to Opt in to booking from the Employee Center / Appointment Booking / Setup menu. In my instance, that's already done.
Next is to create appointment reasons. Again, already present in my demo instance - potentially because I installed demo data.
Most require an IT Skill though when I look at them though, so I am going to create a new one related specifically to HR
Next, I configure appointment communications - the table in my instance in this case is empty. I create a new record in the Location consent table:-
The next step, at least according to the docs, is to create a walk up location. Trying to do this though actually requires that we create a few other things first and that's because the walk up location record references other records, such as stockrooms, location specific appointment booking configs, etc.
So I create those first, or try to. I run into another issue creating a new service config based on an Existing one
Okay… So I'll first create a new catalog item for Stafford. NOW I can create the service config. I also create a stockroom. I notice that the Santa clara stockroom has a reference to a specific assignment group too to manage it. So I'll create a new assignment group too.
I can now finally move back to create the walk up location and map the reasons to it
I then carry on following the docs. I switch the Appointment booking view for the locations queue form and set the location consent I created earlier, and pick the Human resources topic.
That should be enough to get things working, but I'll complete the last couple of steps anyway by creating a feedback definition (I noticed in my instance that a repeat interval seconds of 00 failed, and needed to be set to 0 to permit the record to save).
And finally I update the page route map to skip the appointment type page - because I don't want virtual appointments.
That's the config all in place. I'll run the functionality through it's paces and show what it looks like in a follow up article.
