Q: How the question of data security is handled in cloud network, especially for the businesses dealing with extra security demanding financial transactions ?
A: A very good question. However, your question is slightly out of scope for this webinar but nonetheless very important. May we follow up with you? I know Allan Leinwand, who is our top cloud infrastructure and security expert at ServiceNow, would love to talk to you.
Q: I am surprised that the survey was not extended to Canada
A: Noted, Jo. I'll give the feedback to the research team.
Q: What do Cloud customers typically track in the CMDB to support ITSM processes of incident and change
A: We do discovery of a number of fields for each CI in our CMDB
Q: How does cloud affect service availability reporting and service modeling?
A: It all depends on how you define availability. Please see our Service Maters blog for an article on how we measure Real Availability.
Q: What changes do you see being required in the Information space to support cloud adoption?
A: Encryption is likely to be a requirement, in flight and at rest.
Q: How you get IT to think beyond Lift and Shift?
A: The need to support cloud native features will require specific refactoring that's needed.
Q: How does cloud strategy specific to Service Now adapt to upcoming IoT services?
A: We are developing services on our platform to discovery, analyze and manage IoT services and devices. Some of our customers integrate ServiceNow with some IoT platforms today as well.
Q: Disaster recovery planning and testing may grow in complexity as cloud sprawl occurs and as businesses maintain a mix of integrated on-premise and cloud services. To help manage this complexity, is ServiceNow working on a Disaster Recovery as a Service offering?
A: No, we are not working on DRaaS at this time.
Q: What does the CMDB look like in a Cloud world where VM
A: CMDB looks the same. A VM is just another form of CI in the CMDB.
Q: What does the CMDB look like in a world where VM's are spinning up and down all day long? A: The same as it is today. A VM is just another CI in our CMDB.
Q: Do you have any comments related to Cloud Center of Excellence for the Large enterprise, and or Best Practices, and Cloud Maturity Models? We want to know where we are relative to the market....
A: Many of our large customers do setup a CoE for the deployment of services. This practice is fairly common but I can't speak to exact percentages of adoption. You're thinking about this - and that is the right step.
Q: how about applying the governance and compliance as a service up front?
A: agreed - we can do that with our GRC application and the UC Framework. Please let us know if we can help.
Q: That is a tall order or IT people! What training have you seen be successful in re-tooling peoples' ability to interact with business folks?
A: agreed - but we think that IT folks will move up the stack and be low-code developers helping their businesses succeed. We used to do excel macros and ASP.Net. We're just moving on up.
Q: By moving to a 'citizen developer' a company risks losing very talented system and integration developers. How is ServiceNow enticing experienced software developers to build on the platform?
A: We have a CreateNow Studio, git integration and an IDE on the platform for experienced software devs. Please check it out!
Q: to make it easy for customer to choose right cloud, right SaaS, right PaaS up front
A: agree! I would make a service catalog that is easy to consume in the enterprise.
Q: What is the center of importance for Service Now - People or Processes ?
A: Yes We automate processes and help people drive those processes.
Q: Regarding skill development, what is the learning path for a traditional desktop support engineer to transition to cloud support?
A: I'd start with the training classes for your favorite cloud platform. I'd also learn the basics of Java and Javascript as a start.
Q: We are stuck in waterscrum
A: Lots of folks are - they call it AgileScrumFall. I'd push your scrum teams to define good Definition of Done as a start.
Q: Let me expand further - Whether processes of Service Now require people to change and accept it, or it is the people (organizational culture) around which process are made to adapt?
A: It is my belief that tools don't change people and processes. You need the org to change their process and then the tooling can help move things along.
Q: For a Healthcare (Pharma, Biotech, Med Dev), where do you put the computer validation requirements in DevOPS (do validation faster)
A: We do validation and audit after the development process. In our world, it's managed by our compliance teams. Our development teams do develop, test and operate their services. But, validation is afterwards.
Q: AS part of transition to cloud... how important it is to look at transitioning applications (3 Tier) to micro services??
A: micro services is a technology construct. It's one way to transition apps but not always the best path.
Q: Hi,How do we convince to management of the client that the cloud is more secure than a self-hosted?
A: We have lots of thoughts here. Please start with: https://servicematters.servicenow.com/why-the-enterprise-cloud-is-central-to-your-security-strategy/
Q: If we want to outsource some pieces, are there some cloud management services companies that provide end to end services?
A: Yes, we have lots of services partners. Please see our website for our services partners.
Q: Question about other department driving DevOps; Won't that cause overload work to the other departments? How would we solve this? or advice?
A: I would have your teams take a course of DevOps. There is a lot of information out there and it's best to modify it to suit your teams.
Q: What has ServiceNow learned from it's competitors to improve upon the platform?
A: We have built a new instance architecture focused on availability, security and performance. Please see: https://servicematters.servicenow.com/introducing-the-enterprise-cloud/
