Must Developers be granted the Admin role?

My company typically grants the Admin role to all Developers on Dev and Test instances.  Recently this has came under review and we are being tasked with determining if there is a suitable set of roles that Developers can use and continue to be productive that does not include the Admin Role.

Has anyone already visited this issue?  Does SN have recommendations on the actual Roles to be assigned to Developers?

Hello,

It depends on what they're working on. If they're working on a custom app, then they don't necessarily need admin: https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/rome-application-development/page/build/applications/concept/c_De... - one example.

Otherwise, normally, in sub-production environments, they'd have not only admin, but security admin, which is needed to create and edit ACLs.

Our team was asked something similar regarding Developer roles on the sub-prod instances. Could you share what your team ultimately decided on? Did you find a set of roles that worked well for Developers? Additionally, if ServiceNow has any recommendations on the ideal roles for Developers, that insight would be invaluable.
