Hi,

bianca.vaccarini wrote Knowledge14 advice for first-timers (I'm already tracking the discussion to know your good advices) but because we have a world outside the know14 (yes yes, it exists), I would like to ask the same question about San Francisco

Regards,

I have only ever been there once, for a total of 2 days in which one day was spent on a soccer field. Based on that trip here is some advice I have:

  1. Pack warm clothes - it gets really windy and cold in the day time
  2. If you plan on taking public transportation while you are there, I suggest you download the app HopStop
  3. Bring an extra portable battery charger or snap on your Mophie

This is my first Knowledge Conference and my 22nd year living in the Bay Area. So, while I may not be the go-to girl on all things K14, I can help you navigate your week in San Francisco.

I'll start you with 3 things NOT to do:

  1. Do not pay attention to the weather forecast. San Francisco weather is extremely temperamental- wear layers because you never know when Karl the Fog will roll in and ruin the beautiful sunny day (yes, SF fog has a twitter account).
  2. Do not refer to California as "Cali". seriously.
  3. No, no, no, no, no.

At K14 you will learn and network but here are some places to eat and play.

EAT

Ferry Building- Walk down to the waterfront and enjoy foodie indulgences. Grab a Greens 2 from Pressed Juicery to fuel your day, find the guy passing out almond toffee samples at G.L. Alfeiri (you won't be sorry), and throw back some Hog Island Oysters. If you have extra time, hop over to the TCHO chocolate factory or play around at the Exploratorium.

The Rotunda at Neiman Marcus- After exploring Union Square, stop in to The Rotunda for a popover and lobster club.

Zero Zero- Located steps away from Moscone, Zero Zero serves up wood-fired pizzas, pasta dishes, and a range of starters including crudo, bruschetta, and salads. Don't miss their tasty cocktails- you won't be disappointed with the Terroir (St. George Terroir Gin, Huckleberries, Lemon, Basil) or Pimm's Ale an inventive and delicious beer cocktail (Pimm's No. 1, Square One Cucumber Vodka, Lemon, Fresh Squeezed IPA). If you're hungry, go for the Amatriciana (Pancetta, Spicy Tomato Sauce, Sweet Onion, Garlic, Pecorino) Don't even think about skipping dessert. They offer up customizable soft serve sundaes. I go for vanilla soft serve drizzled in olive oil and sea salt with caramel and a chocolate cake on the side- treat yo' self.

Ice cream- SF is a haven for ice cream lovers. A few favorites: Smitten (Yup, ice cream made with liquid nitrogen), Three Twins, & Bi-Rite.

PLAY

Giant's Baseball Game at AT&T Park- SF has an extremely dedicated fan base. Grab some bleacher seats, throw on your panda hat, and enjoy a ball game.

DO NOT FORGET AN EXTRA JACKET.

Lyon Street Steps- For the fitness enthusiast. If you're looking to get your heart rate up and burn a few calories head to the Lyon Street steps. The view from

the top isn't half bad.

Musée Mécanique- Journey back to the turn of the century at this antique arcade on Fisherman's Wharf. Test your strength or have your fortune read.

Useful Apps and Sites

OpenTable- Make reservations online

Uber- Get where you need to go with an Uber driver

Be sure to check out the lights on the Bay Bridge. The company I work for led the technical design for this project.
