We all are pretty much aware of the beauty of scheduling the actions/activities so that things can be done as per the plan. We no need to bother and worried about our memory loss because we all are humans and forgot few things and don’t go as planned!!!
When it comes to ServiceNow, we often see that scheduled clones, scheduled patches and as part of implementation we schedule some jobs/scripts. Well, have you ever thought of scheduling a plugin/application installation? If yes, please comment and share the use case so that everyone can understand the power of this new feature which I am talking about.
As per I knew some of the plugins will take good amount of time to install and while one plugin is installing, we can’t install another plugin. In the process of plugin installation sometimes we see the slow performance of the instance as well. So, to avoid all such issues if we can plan and schedule the plugin installation based on the best time.
In Rome release, ServiceNow introduced a new feature called Schedule Installation which helps users to schedule the installation of a plugin, application, or product at the required time from your ServiceNow instance. Users can simultaneously schedule multiple installations.
It’s a platform capability no additional setup or subscription required.
How to Schedule:
- Navigate to System Definition > Plugins.
- Search for the required plugin, application, or product.
- Click the schedule installation icon (
).
- Specify the time at which you want to schedule the installation.
- Click Next.
Note:
- If the app is blocked from installation, the installation and schedule installation icons are disabled.
- You can't schedule the installation of an in-development plugin.4.
- If another installation is scheduled at the same time, a message is displayed that the installation can't be scheduled at the mentioned time and auto-populates the next available slot.
How to Reschedule:
In the Schedule Activation window, choose the option to reschedule if the scheduled installation doesn't complete. That is, the admin can choose to retry the installation once or exit the installation.
The installation is scheduled and a confirmation message is displayed.
How to View the Schedules:
Click the schedule summary icon () to view the installation status and schedule calendar.
- To view the status of the installation, click View Status.

- If the installation is successful, the details of the plugin, application, or product are displayed.
- If the installation fails, the reason for the failure is displayed along with other details.
- To reschedule or delete the scheduled installation, click Reschedule or Delete in the app tile.
Note: If you have scheduled the installation of a product, all apps in the product will also be scheduled for installation. However, you can't modify or delete the schedule of an individual app. You can only modify or delete the schedule of the product.
- To view the schedule of installations, click Full schedule. A calendar displays the details of the scheduled installations.
How to Filter:
Select the Installation Scheduled check box to see the list of plugin/Applications scheduled.
