CSA-Certified Single Dad Desperately Seeking a Way Back Into ServiceNow

Hello everyone,

I’m incredibly grateful to have found this group — I truly need help, and I’m reaching out with everything I’ve got.

I earned my CSA over three years ago and was thrilled to be hired by Cognizant shortly after, with the promise of being trained into a Business Analyst role focused on ServiceNow. Unfortunately, within a week of starting, the director who brought me on resigned, and the budget for the training was eliminated.

I was given a choice: leave the company or pivot to another internal role. As a single father raising two young boys, I couldn’t afford to walk away — so I took a position in a completely different area, working on-call 24/7, managing server restarts and maintenance. It pulled me away from ServiceNow entirely.

After three exhausting years, a budget cut hit — and I was one of the last two on the team to be laid off. Since then, it’s been an uphill battle. My background also includes help desk and desktop support, but I keep hearing the same thing: I’m either overqualified or don’t have enough direct ServiceNow experience.

I’m not giving up. I can’t give up. I’m doing everything I can to get back into the ServiceNow space — not just for myself, but for my kids. I’m desperate for an opportunity, for someone to give me a chance to prove what I know I can do.

If anyone here knows of any company that hires junior candidates or is willing to take on someone who’s hungry, coachable, and determined — please, I’m begging you — point me in the right direction. I won’t waste the opportunity.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Hi @AlphonsoLymus , I totally empathize your situation. I am not a single dad but I have young kids like you and hoping to break into ServiceNow jobs like you. Also like you, I don't have many ServiceNow experience, qualifications and certifications, so I can totally understand.

As I look around other posts on this job forum, I noticed many are in the same situation of "not able to get a ServiceNow job" mainly due to 3 reasons i.e.

  1. Inadequate hands-on experience - despite having many ServiceNow certificates, employers want hands-on experience. My suggestion is to get into a very junior/graduate level job

  2. Wrong search - I learned from this forum, instead of simply just searching in LinkenIn or job portals for servicenow jobs, should limit the salary to a lower range, then the junior jobs will appear. Simply searching without limiting the salary to lower range will give you jobs that requires experience, competing with other experienced ServiceNow people.
  3. Insufficient product/technical skills - certified sys admin is not enough. Most employers wants candidates with skills on multiple modules (especially the popular ones such as ITSM/ITAM/GRC/ITOM/SPM), scripting skills and development skills.

It's competitive, lots to learn and a long journey to break into ServiceNow jobs. I hope I am wrong, please keep in touch. Interested to know if you found new useful tricks to get a ServiceNow job. All the best.
