I am looking to get a move from Developer -> Business Analyst

Hi,

I am looking to get a move from Developer -> Business Analyst.

I am seeking advise on how best to move forward i feel I'm good with communication and also have 8+ years of experience in ServiceNow Admin/Development all together. Have worked a bit on integration not much. I am having a weird felling of wanting to move to a different approach such as business analyst/ working as a ServiceNow Team Manager and seeking guidance on how best to get a job as a business analyst/ Team Manager and what all things i can expect in that role such as challenges, skill sets, etc. I'm CSA,CAD certified as well moving to get CIS ITSM Sonner or later this year....

Thank you for your help in advance,

Regards,

Saurabh

HI @Saurabh Singh3

As a ServiceNow trainer and BPC, I’m happy to share my thoughts with you. Both BA (Business Analyst) and BPC roles are equally important in ServiceNow. It’s great that you’re considering moving your career towards a BA role. Since you already have experience in ServiceNow, the key now is to shift your mindset. Developers focus more on how to do things, whereas BAs focus more on why things are needed.

For a BA/BPC, it’s important to first understand the module or product from a functional perspective. This means learning about the processes within a specific module, then understanding the backend and how that module connects within the component and with other products.

You can start with ITSM, but it’s important to build your portfolio by learning other products like GRC, HRSD, and more. Also, focus on creating documentation, writing good user stories, understanding Agile, and related skills.

Start with these steps and feel free to share your feedback.

You can do the BA journey in Now Learning as well.

Other than ServiceNow BA journey, I highly recommend taking Scrum Master class by Scrum Alliance. It is online two days class. Understanding the foundation of scrum framework, helped me a lot for what I do which is similar to what you think of doing as next step.
