Its always an use case in most of the PMO organization to find projects with or without tasks in it. Having so many projects running at the same time and also new projects getting on-boarded it would be a difficult task for PMO to manually check if each and every projects have tasks or no.

While researching this a bit, found an interesting field and a behavior in the Project list view that quickly helps to identify such projects. I call it a green dot view.

At a first glance anybody would think that the green dot is a Project RAG indicator and so did I. But later realized that this green dot is always green and is not dependent on the RAG indicator at all.

Secondly I wondered why the green dot is only on few projects and not all.

After some research and playing around with the platform, was able to find a co-relation between the green dot and the project tasks and how simple is it to identify projects with and without Project tasks.

So to summarize-

1. Projects having a Green dot besides the project no are project having project tasks in it

2. Rollup field is set to True for projects having project tasks

3. The green dot and the rollup field are in sync always

4. Use the Rollup field to create a report to show projects having no tasks in it

Sometimes the solution is right in front of our eyes, but we simply tend to ignore the availability and the behaviors.

Thought of sharing this in the community hoping that others could benefit as well.

Do let me know if the information is helpful.
