Hi everyone,

I’m currently going through the ServiceNow SPM course and had a question around Demand Management and Portfolio alignment.

From the training, I understand how demands flow into SPM and how portfolios, programs, and projects are structured. However, I wanted to understand how this works in real‑world implementations:

  • How do organizations typically ensure that incoming demands are consistently aligned with portfolio strategy and business objectives?
  • Are there recommended best practices for using scoring criteria, strategic themes, or guardrails to filter or prioritize demands before they move further in the lifecycle?
  • In cases where multiple portfolios exist, how do teams avoid overlap or misalignment between demands across portfolios?

I’d appreciate any practical insights, lessons learned, or examples from implementations beyond what’s covered in the course material.
