Demand Creation from BRDs / Business Cases

Greetings SPM Community !

I'm looking to validate a pattern I am seeing around Demand Management intake.

I have experienced customers create BRDs (business requirement documents) , business cases, project charters, investment requests, or funding proposals outside ServiceNow (e.g., Word, SharePoint, Excel).

Once approved, a PMO analyst, BRM, or Demand Manager manually creates the Demand record in SPM by re-entering information from the document.

Please share

  • If you (or your customers) also use the BRD, business case, or similar documents as part of the demand intake process?
  • How common is manual re-entry of approved document information into SPM demand?

Your input will help in understanding how prevalent this requirement is across the customer base.

Thank you for your insights and feedback.

Have a Great SPM Journey!

Thank You!

Yes, our business leaders supply additional information submitting a request.  We have built an entry form which requires them to enter a subset of the information for the purposes of populating the executive summary and other key fields in the demand record.  The other items are attached to the record as reference rather than re-documenting.

Thanks a lot @JanisP  for sharing this.

May I reach out to you to understand the process in a better way? if yes, please share the email address.

Thank You!

Our strategic projects create documents outside ServiceNow for project initiation (eg. Project Brief and/or Business Case and BRD). The demand is created by the delivery lead during Initiating, using high level information from these documents. They only really start using ServiceNow to capture the project plan and manage progress (for reporting purposes).

For all other projects the Demand record is used to capture the high level business case and requirements.  A signed BR document is still required, prior to approval to execute.

Thank You Claire.

Let's discuss this in our meeting.

Have a Great day!
