Hi SNowers 👋,
i have queries and needs solution for below scenario....
I have queries regarding ServiceNow SPM implementation capabilities. I’ve completed the SPM training on the Learning Platform (fundamentals and implementation), but training cannot cover everything we face in real-world scenarios.
Here, I’ll use an example scenario to ask queries and get answers/solutions/suggestions for similar types of implementations. 💡
Scenario:
An organization manages real estates and has multiple sites with several field engineers working for them.
Personas/Roles involved:
- 👷 Field Engineer
- 👨💼Field Engineer Managers (Resource Managers)
- 📋Project Managers
- 🌍Regional Manager
- 🌐Global Manager & Stakeholders
They want to utilize SPM capabilities in ServiceNow to manage financials and resource management.
What they do:
Deploy sites for clients—making them ready for use. For example, if it’s a commercial place, complete all construction and electrical installations/formalities accordingly, If its hotels then, manage the asset required or resources required to function it properly, like staffs, the routers, the managers, etc.
And for all this they wanted to track financials with their budget. Also all this tracking should be in daily view.
Issues faced by the client without ServiceNow SPM (and what they want to tackle now):
A: Capacity Planning 📊
- Resources exist, but visibility in planning and utilization is missing—some are underutilized, others overutilized. 1️⃣ Lack of visibility when users have Time-Off (planned/unplanned). Project Managers cannot see who is unavailable during task assignment.
2️⃣Resource Manager rejects resource requests and wants to suggest alternate resources to Project Managers.
3️⃣Project Manager wants weekly resource modeling to optimize utilization and maintain productivity.
Query: Regional Manager asks:
“Can we handle 20 new hotel deployments next month?”
B: Time Tracking & Activity Analysis ⏱
4️⃣Resources work on tasks outside their assignment, causing imbalance.
5️⃣Project Managers lack daily visibility of resource utilization and task progress.
Query: Resource Manager asks:
“This user has spent 150% of its capacity—how can we track this in real time daily?”
C: Resource Allocation 🎯
6️⃣Skills are not utilized effectively due to lack of visibility. Need skill-based allocation to optimize work and track capacity.
Query: Field Engineer Manager asks:
“Need skill-based allocation to optimize work and track capacity.”
😧Demand Management 📥
7️⃣Multiple requests for field resources—how to manage and prioritize them?
Query: Global Manager/Stakeholder asks:
“Need a proper process to gather and prioritize emerging demands.”
E: Financial Management 💰
8️⃣Need to set up project budgets (asset cost, labor cost, etc.) and track capital usage for forecasting.
Additional Requirement:
Resource Manager should manage approvals when Project Manager assigns tasks: ✅ Approve
❌Reject
🔄Reject and suggest alternatives (without directly assigning resources)
Implementation Context:
- On Zurich instance
- Client prefers SPM Standard or Professional (not HRSD modules)
Goal:
To brainstorm solutions using SPM capabilities for these challenges. Any insights, best practices, or implementation approaches would be greatly appreciated. This discussion will also help others planning similar implementations. 🙏

I don’t have much on the SPM side yet, but I’ll need some time to work on this. Have you completed the SPM training? It looks like it’s missing the process setup first. You need to pick the SPM products and then set it up.
I suggest referring to the Now Create (Best Practice) site, where you can find the process workshop deck. This will give you an idea of how to build it correctly.
