SPM Implementation Demo

Hi everyone,

My name’s Matthew, and I’m a Portfolio Lead at a telecoms company in Yorkshire, UK.

I’m reaching out to see if anyone has solid experience with SPM implementations that they’d be open to demoing or sharing insights on. I’m not looking for a technical deep dive, rather, I’d love to understand how you actually use it day-to-day, what benefits you’ve seen from a portfolio perspective, and what challenges or pain points you’ve encountered.

We’ve done a light implementation of SPM but are running into challenges with building an effective portfolio roadmap that properly links down into project plans and features/stories. At the moment, we’re using the SAFe module but are considering migrating to EAP.

Right now, my main goal is to see a strong example of SPM working in a real-world environment and learn how other organisations are managing change through SPM.

Looking forward to hearing your experiences!

Matthew

Hi @matthewgilbert,

I’ve worked with SPM in a financial services environment, and what you’re seeing is very familiar.

For us, the day-to-day was about using agile boards for stories, then portfolio/project workspaces to monitor initiative health, budget track, and dependencies. The drill-down from roadmaps to epics and projects was key to keeping delivery aligned with both strategy and financial commitments.

The biggest benefits were visibility and trust. Leadership finally had a single source of truth on spend vs. value, and portfolio reviews became much more focused on outcomes.

Challenges? Linking high-level roadmaps to detailed delivery wasn’t always seamless, and adoption took effort. It only really clicked once we tied SPM directly into financial management and governance and agreed on the right level of detail at each tier.

Thanks & Regards,
