Time-card monthly reporting

Hi everybody,

We have recently implemented the module Demand & Project Portfolio Management on Service Now and we're really excited about it. Anyway, we'd like to share with you on some specific issues concerning the Time-Card Module.

THE ISSUE

The Time-carding in Snow has a level of granularity that it's weekly and it's based on the field week start on.

This kind of partition for weeks is not very useful for "time-card monthly reporting" . In fact, for the weeks that fall within two months, it's not possible to figure out how many hours the resources have worked per month (previous month or the next one). For example, I'd like to have a monthly (obviously, a monthly calendar) report concerning my resources time-card (sum of total hours worked).

Has anyone ever had this kind of problem? Any suggestion?

Thanks a lot,

Pierluigi

You may not want to switch your process but....you can instead have people enter time via Time Worked (basically have Time Worked wherever you want them to report time in Project - at the Project level, Project Task level, project requirements/issues/risks/defects/decisions etc), and have Time Worked auto-populate & auto-update Time Cards. Then you can do better reporting against Time Worked.

Here a link to a presentation that I put together as an overview of Time Worked vs Time Cards to help us make a decision on what to use this morning. SN Time Worked Overview.pptx - Google Slides. Hope this helps.

I need to bump this post.

We're working on Jakarta and have met this same issue. Some feel that it;s OK as, across a long enough period all days will be accounted for (i.e. any days not accounted for in "Last month" will be picked up in "current month").

However, we'd really like to show a full calendar months worth of time. Has this become possible since this post was started?

I have this same question.  Also, how do you just pull a monthly report across the entire organization for who spent how much time on which tasks (grouped by project) for a calendar month.

Hello Experts,

I have been brooding over the same questions.
Have any of you guys figured out a creative solution for this? I would appreciate any suggestions about handling this.

Hello,

Since posting this I have been on a ServiceNow developers course. My thinking now, although I haven't looked at this in any detail, is to replace the "Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday etc" fields with fields that are instead derived from the "week starts on". So, if the "week starts on" is 01/01/2018 then Monday will be "=Weeks starts on" and Tuesday will be "=weeks starts on + 1" etc.

How that would actually be achieved is currently beyond me and it may be wielding a sledge hammer to crack a walnut but our partners weren't able to solve this for us and so out of the box thinking is required (or rather NOT out of the box).

Our current way of doing this is to manually adjust in Excel which isn't ideal. We are investigating the possibility of using PowerBI once we work out how to get all data out of ServiceNow.

Can of worms anyone?
