Dear Community Member,
On the Details tab of the project form there is the field of 'Execution type' which can be set to Waterfall/Agile/Hybrid. After some research on the multiple types it remains unclear what the implications are of this field and its selected value. On first sight there aren't any differences between Agile/Waterfall/Hybrid in the;
- Project form view
-Related list/links
-Planning console
-Project Workbench
Furthermore, I am unable to find any business rules related to this field. Also the docs don't provide any concrete answers.
Is anyone familiar with the implications of this field and its values when selected? If so could you please elaborate on them.
Thank you.

No mechanical implications. Its strictly an informational field.
You could, without consequence, pack agile phases into the project and still select "Waterfall".
Its just a currently non-automated way for companies that use all 3 of those methodologies to understand what projects are using them without doing more complex queries.

Hi CGS92,
Thanks for raising the question.
As everyone else mentioned, at present "Execution Type" is an informational field and has no impact on the UI in terms of related list, related links or analytics dashboard.
I have plans to make it better in future release. This means "execution type" will drive the related list, related links and the metrics that will be shown via project analytics dashboard.
For example:
1) If execution type is set as waterfall,
A) Stories and Epics will not be available as related list.
B) User will get an option to create a waterfall phase but not the Agile phase
2) If execution type is set as agile,
A) Stories and Epics will be available as related list. Tasks will also be available but I would recommend to use it to create milestones and key milestones.
B) User will get an option to createAgile phase but not the waterfall phase.
C) Project analytics dashboard will include the metrics about stories and epics.
3) If execution type is set as hybrid,
A) User will be able to use tasks as well as stories and epics as related list.
B) User will get an option to create Agile as well as waterfall phase.
C) Project analytics dashboard will include the metrics about tasks, stories and epics.
Hope this helps !
Thanks,
Namita Mishra

Would be great to have OOB PA indicators showing whether or not Agile/Waterfall/Hybrid is higher performing on time or budget.

Hi Rob,
Plan is to display the metrics from the project analytics dashboard so that PM can easily track the following:
For Agile projects:
A) Assignment groups and their sprints and completed points
B) Stories by state
C) Progress by points: PM should be able to see them, grouping by epic, assignment group or state.
Similarly, if it is hybrid project then task & team metrics will be shown along with stories and assignment groups.
Thanks,
Namita Mishra

We are implementing ITBM
That sounds great! Though frankly something I expected was already out of box.
