Make additional columns in a table searchable in Global Search

There is a wealth of articles covering how to add a table to Global Search and how to index the data etc.

I've spent a few hours on the topic now but I haven't found anything that covers all the steps necessary to make an additional column searchable in Global Search?

Can someone direct me to or explain how to add a column in the indexing so that the content in the column is searchable in Global Search?

My use-case is that I would like to make install_base_identifier from sn_install_base_item searchable, I've added the table and created an index including install_base_identifier and done all the steps from indexing source to search application...but I still don't get any results when typing the text present in sn_install_base_item.install_base_identifier.

Any ideas welcome...

There must be pro's that have done this multiple times?

Probably just me not understanding or making mistakes when setting things up.

Seems the behavior you want is how entering a value into a Reference field. install_base_identifier is a String field.

To make an additional "field" like install_base_identifier from the sn_install_base_item "table searchable" in Global Search in ServiceNow, you need to:

1. Ensure the table is added as a Search Source.

2. Create or update a Text Index to include the install_base_identifier field.

3. Make sure the field is marked as Searchable = true in the Dictionary.

4. Rebuild the index so that the data is properly indexed.

5. Verify there are no ACLs or security restrictions preventing results from appearing.
