find_real_file.png now-mvp76x76.pngMeet Michael Fry!

We recently had the opportunity to talk with one of the Community's Leading Top Contributor and Community MVP, Michael Fry

How did your career evolve?

Started on a 4 person help desk, which evolved into an On-Site Network Engineer. The company purchased another ITIL product which I got involved in, but when the company was acquired, the new company already had ServiceNow. We migrated everything from old tool to ServiceNow and now I'm hooked.

What do you do now? What is your favorite part of using ServiceNow?

Solutions Architect for a domain separated ServiceNow instance. It's great to build cool things that helps the company when in reality those cool things are very simple without a whole bunch of complexity.

How did you get involved with the ServiceNow Community?

One day I was looking for something and saw a question on UI action. I thought, I know the answer and replied and it was marked correct.

How do you work the community into your day?

Whenever I get a minute or two I try to help out. Sometimes at night I might jump on since we're all not in the same time zone.

What motivates you to participate? Why do you do it?

Every day you can learn something. It's great to engage with others, and learn how they did it, or what made it work.

How else do you participate?

I've attended the last 5 Knowledge events. I attend the SNUG's when I can. Of course life is busy at home, but you try to be do everything, be everywhere and help when you can.

Where do you spend your time in the community?

Mostly recent content but I do like to visit Share site to see what's new. ITSM & ITOM sections are always another good place to hang out.

Tell us about your work with RoundTower.

RoundTower is a fantastic company. We just went live on July 11th with a MSP instance. The company is embracing ServiceNow with lots of plans for the future.

Does your employer support your participation?

My employer supports be bettering myself every day, learning how to make things better, while maintaining the to-do list.

Do you have any stand-out / memorable experiences with ServiceNow?

After 6 months using ServiceNow, I felt like I knew a lot. Then I went to Knowledge 12, and found out quickly that I knew very little! You can learn something almost every day or every week if you want too.

What would you say to encourage your peers to participate more?

Try it -   you might just lean something that can help you in the future while helping someone else with their problem today.

Any thoughts for your peers who are thinking about becoming more active in the Community?

I encourage them to partake in the fun! If you answer "black" and the answer is "blue", then the learning has just begun.

Any suggestions to fellow members to make the community even better?

The mobile app is great. I just started to use it, but I think that's a great tool.

What advice would you give to someone who wanted a nudge to start contributing?

Most users who don't reply worry about saying the wrong thing. We're here to help, educate others, and learn something new for ourselves. If that's you — JUMP IN!

Any other interesting tidbits, stories, hobbies you'd like to share?

I love the cold. While most don't, you have to find things to do while you wait for Summer. We're always around an ice rink watching hockey somewhere. It's a great game, very fast. Summers are about being at the lake.
