Meet Community MVP...

Alikutty Abdulrazak

Hello Ali!  So tell us a little on how you got started in your career and when was ServiceNow introduced to you?

Being from a Java background, I have been handling the legacy ITSM applications and processes for the first 5 years of my career. I had moved into ServiceNow when my customer decided to transition their legacy systems into ServiceNow and the journey began in 2014. My previous experiences with web development had greatly helped me to switch into the platform.

What do you do now? What is your favorite part of using the ServiceNow?

Currently, I work as a Senior Technical Consultant for Enable Professional Services handling projects for our Hongkong customers. Enable is an award winning elite partner of ServiceNow in the APJ region. Exploring best practices is one of my favorite part of ServiceNow and I put a lot of time in troubleshooting and understanding the design and working of different platform features.

find_real_file.pngHow did you get involved with the ServiceNow Community?

Initially, I was an active reader of all answered posts in the community. I was enjoying it as I started to learn a lot of new things. There were different answers given for the same post which give me more insight into the usage of platform. Apart from the answers, the discussions within a post had shown me how other experts has dealt with such issues in their organization. Slowly after a period of time, I started to realize that I am able to answer queries of others as they were something that I had read or handled before.

You're very generous with your time. What inspired you to start answering in addition to asking?

Learning was the one of the major trigger to start answering the posts. I would try out the solutions in my personal developer instance which primarily improves my knowledge on the topic apart from helping out the community. The gamification within the community is also a great motivator to stay active and focused. The MVP program is another booster to keep you intact with the community.

How do you work the community into your day?

Whenever I login to community, I put some time to check on the latest questions posted and see If I could respond to them. Depending on my schedule I put some time (maybe an hour) to go over the posts and answer the ones which have received less attention.

Where do you spend your time in the community?

I have been recently gaining more knowledge in the ITOM and ITAM space and very keen to put my focus in these areas of communities.

How else do you participate?

I have started doing ServiceNow videos and I add them to the community. I feel that I could express myself better in a video than writing articles or blogs. This also helps me to spread the knowledge to a wider reach of audience.

What would you say to encourage your peers to participate more?

The ServiceNow community is an ocean whose depth of knowledge has not been defined. You can get solutions for an issue that you could not find anywhere else or learn things which you had never heard or seen before. The community has real time experiences of people from different parts of the world who are experts in their field and you receive their support and guidance without any payment 🙂

Be a part of it, expand your learning skills and contribute to the community to become an expert one day!

Do you have any stand-out / memorable experiences with ServiceNow?

I had got an opportunity to take 2 virtual session for the Knowledge 2020 which was one of the most memorable experiences with ServiceNow. It was my first Knowledge session and I took sessions on NOW best practices and mobile app.

Is there a specific product and/or feature that you just can't believe you ever lived without?

The ITOM suite of products have been in my list recently. I have been amazed to the extent of its capability specifically with Discovery and the Pattern designer. In the beginning, it was all known as a ticketing tool. The ITOM suite has expanded the boundaries of automation. Automating your CMDB with discovery, service mapping and event management along with the ITSM suite of incident, problem and change makes it a deadly combination for any company willing to keep their IT and infrastructure running smoothly and up to date.

Do you have a favorite piece of content on the community?

I am an ardent fan of best practices and all related contents are my first choice to read. The TechNow episode list from Chuck Tomasi is one of my favorite as this is one of the content that is being updated since last 4 years.

Thank you, Ali!
