Meet Community MVP...
Ashutosh Munot
Hello Ashutosh! So tell us a little on how you got started in your career and when was ServiceNow introduced to you?
When I was pursuing my MBA I got a job opportunity with KPIT Technologies in Pune where I started my IT career and at the same time I was introduced to ServiceNow and that is where the exciting Journey related to ServiceNow started. I now have 7 years of experience working in the IT industry and with ServiceNow, which I am proud of.
What do you do now? What is your favorite part of using the ServiceNow?
I am from Nashik, Maharashtra, India currently working with Nationale Nederlanden in The Hague, Netherlands as ServiceNow Technical Lead/Consultant. I am responsible for Innovation, Upgrade, License management and implementation of new modules in NN Group.
How did your career evolve?
This is a wonderful question as ServiceNow changed my IT career. Initially a few years ago, I was worried about working on a tool because I was rather interested in core technologies. But when I started learning this tool and the technologies behind it, I gathered more interest around ServiceNow and now the show is still going on. I must say I got a job opportunity in Netherlands directly from India because of ServiceNow and also having the title “MVP” because people look at it you in different angle when you hold this title on your CV.
How did you get involved with the ServiceNow Community?
As I said in above questions, my initial carrier was full of worries because of lack of knowledge around the tool and fear of what will happen if the tool vanishes. But then I started looking around and started learning about the tool. So when I was learning, I got to know that if you want answers to your questions and some guidance on ServiceNow then you must hit Community and start gathering all knowledge on what you want.
You're very generous with your time. What inspired you to start answering in addition to asking?
I was inspired to gain knowledge because you have a variety of real time scenarios in the form of questions that you can try and acquire knowledge from. I also wanted to improve my recognition in the ServiceNow community which helps you get good jobs. Last but not the least, becoming a community leader and gaining the MVP award was my ultimate goal.
How do you work the community into your day?
I usually do it in my free time after office hours for couple of hours. I have subscribed to few forums which I give special attention to like ITOM, GRC,SecOps.
Where do you spend your time in the community?
On ITOM and SecOps community and then creating videos and articles for community members.
How else do you participate?
I attended user groups and events like Now Forum, Knowledge, etc.
What would you say to encourage your peers to participate more?
For my peers I will say that “I WANT YOU TO BE ON THAT MVP LIST SOON.”
What advice would you give to someone who wanted a nudge to start contributing?
I would say use this platform to gain as much knowledge as you can because there are many individuals who have created great content for you to learn. Apart from that, use this community as a basket of real-time use cases which you can try to develop in your own environment to get familiar with the concepts just as I DID.
Any other advice to share with those just starting on their journey with ServiceNow?
Fasten your seat belts and get onboard to ServiceNow because the future journey is going to be awesome and full of surprises which will help you grow in our professional career.
Do you have any stand-out / memorable experiences with ServiceNow?
Oh yes many, but the one experience I will never forget is the REJECTION. Yes rejection, because I still remember when I had my first job interview for ServiceNow and I was full of shock and surprised because the questions asked were something I heard for the first time. This blew my mind and triggered me to start contributing to the ServiceNow community and that rejection brought me to this level.
Is there a specific product and/or feature that you just can't believe you ever lived without?
Two products : Flow Designers and ITOM Suite, they made life so easy for our fellow network and infra colleagues.
How long do you think you will continue to contribute and support the community?
I will keep doing this while I am working in this domain and with this tool. In short, till the end of my professional career. Whenever and wherever possible, I will keep supporting our ServiceNow Community.
Any other interesting tidbits, stories, hobbies you'd like to share?
I am passionate about learning new things, being competitive and most important I like to be humble. Apart from my ServiceNow and IT life, I like to do running, cycling, playing football, cricket and I like to travel new places to get acquainted to new cultures.
Thank you, Ashutosh!
