Meet Community MVP...
Prateek Kumar
Hello Prateek! So tell us a little on how you got started in your career and when was ServiceNow introduced to you?
I started my career with ServiceNow around 2015, and fell in love with the platform on how powerful the NOW platform engine is and how ServiceNow platform can be customized and configured depending on the Client needs.
What do you do now? What is your favorite part of using the ServiceNow?
I work as Sr. ServiceNow Developer at TriNet. I work on the ITSM development, Project and Portfolio Management, HR Management, and some parts of ITOM. My favorite part of using ServiceNow would be the flexibility it gives to the customers in configuring the tool to drive the Business processes.
How did your career evolve?
I started as a consultant when I started my journey with ServiceNow and then I moved to a full time Sr. ServiceNow developer role. How did you get involved with the ServiceNow Community?
In the beginning, I was reaching out to the community for any help I would need technically and in 2017 I decided to participate in the community to help others resolve their challenges and assist in technical difficulties.
You're very generous with your time. What inspired you to start answering in addition to asking?
It is always a joy to participate in the community and I enjoy every bit of it. I wanted to give back something to the ServiceNow community which helped me a lot in the initial days of my career so I decided to help other ServiceNow fellow developers to help resolve their issues by participating in the community. That being said, it helps me in learning more concepts that I'm not aware of and never been worked upon.
How do you work the community into your day?
Usually, I spend at least a couple of hours in the ServiceNow community to answer questions.
Where do you spend your time in the community?
I spend most of my time on Now platform and ITSM forums, but I also spend my time on other forums in general.
How else do you participate?
AI wrote a couple of articles where people have difficulties in scripting more often.
What would you say to encourage your peers to participate more?
Apart from just answering the questions, there is so much valuable information on the community that can help improve the skills. I often visit the community to just take a look at the questions that people are asking and try to implement the requirements in my own personal instance. I would say the same to the peers.
What advice would you give to someone who wanted a nudge to start contributing?
I would say go for it and I always encourage my team members to participate. There is no best place other than learning from the community.
Do you have any stand-out / memorable experiences with ServiceNow?
Many times when I'm stuck on an issue I reach out to the community to get help and almost all the times I get my issue resolved. We all often need a second pair of eyes to find the defect and help us to lead in the right direction. I always get that support from the ServiceNow community.
Is there a specific product and/or feature that you just can't believe you ever lived without?
ServiceNow Developer Portal.
Do you have a favorite piece of content on the community?
Tech bytes and Live coding hours with the Experts.
Is there a specific product and/or feature that you just can't believe you ever lived without?
ServiceNow Developer Portal.
What motivates you to participate? Why do you do it?
It helps me a lot to develop my skills in my professional career. There is so much quality content to learn from in the community besides answering questions. This is one of the primary reasons I login to the community site atleast once a day.
Any other interesting tidbits, stories, hobbies you'd like to share?
I spend most of my time with my friends and family.
Thank you, Prateek!
