Meet Community MVP...

Sanjiv Meher

Hello Sanjiv!  So tell us a little on how you got started in your career and when was ServiceNow introduced to you?

imageI started my career in 2007 as a manual tester. I was working with one of the Top UK Telecom company. I slowly moved into ProC development in the same project and then also worked in a project with the same client where HP Service Manager was used. Later on during 2012 I worked with HP to build a cloud based solution of HP Service Manager called HP Service Anywhere. Later in 2013, I got an opportunity to work on ServiceNow for Credit Suisse. And since then I have been working on ServiceNow projects.

What do you do now? What is your favorite part of using the ServiceNow?

I currently work as a ServiceNow Architect in eBay. My favorite part about using ServiceNow is its platform. The base is so solid that I can build an application of my own. And I am an innovative person and the platform gives me the opportunity to apply my innovation to it.

How did your career evolve?

I have worked on different projects and excelled in all of them. But the turning point for me was when I started contributing to ServiceNow Community and got MVP recognition.

How did you get involved with the ServiceNow Community?

My 2nd project with Axis Capital, which was a huge project, I worked on various modules. Many of those modules were new to me and I had lot of questions, because I was in a learning phase. I don't think there was any better place than ServiceNow Community to get answers to all of those questions. I asked many questions and learned many new things which I had no idea before. In fact now when I take interviews, one of the criteria is to have a ServiceNow community account.

find_real_file.pngYou're very generous with your time. What inspired you to start answering in addition to asking?

In 2017, when I didn't have a project for a month, I started spending time in community answering to questions. I felt, answering to questions actually helped me learn about new applications in ServiceNow and also to find solutions to many different use cases for different client. I also learnt about the MVP program and its advantage, which I never heard before until I explored the community. It gave me a goal for that year to be an MVP, because I knew I have that capability.

How do you work the community into your day?

I used to spend at least an hour everyday to answer questions. Currently, I can't do it everyday due to critical projects delivery but I try to spend as much time as I can if possible.

Where do you spend your time in the community?

I usually spend time mostly in Developer Community, ITSM, GRC, VR, SIR, Service Portal which are my areas of expertise.

How else do you participate?

I also create blogs for various use cases that I come across while working on projects. I also participated as a speaker in knowledge 19 and received a certificate of achievement as a speaker.

What would you say to encourage your peers to participate more?

I would say ServiceNow Community is an integral part of ServiceNow. If you want to succeed, you should spend time answering or creating articles. I am an example for you, where I didn't even have to go through an interview to join one of the best companies I have worked for because I am an MVP. And of-course you get free tickets to Knowledge Conference and you get a MVP jacket, which I love about being an MVP.

Do you have any stand-out / memorable experiences with ServiceNow?

My most memorable experience was speaking at Knowledge 19. The response from the audience was awesome. That made me realize there are so many seeking advice, knowledge and experience from you. Your responsibility is not just contained to your project but also to the community of ServiceNow.

Is there a specific product and/or feature that you just can't believe you ever lived without?

I think ability to build custom applications is a feature I can't live without and i think that's what make ServiceNow a robust platform.

Do you have a favorite piece of content on the community?

I love the TechNow Episodes, which helped me initially to clear my fundamentals in ServiceNow. It could be very helpful for a beginner who wants to start their journey with ServiceNow.
