Hi there,

With the Zurich release now on the horizon, the unavoidable Exam Maintenance Window in getting closer. Each new release typically brings questions around exam scheduling, temporary unavailability, and whether existing exam appointments may be impacted. So let's clarify what to expect.

What Is the Exam Maintenance Window?
The Exam Maintenance Window occurs twice per year and allows ServiceNow to perform maintenance on mainline exams.

During this period:

  • Exam completion is temporarily unavailable
  • Exams are "upgraded" from the Yokohama release to the Zurich release
  • The exam catalog remains accessible
  • You can still schedule exams for future dates

In short: no exams can be taken during the window, but planning ahead is fully supported.

Which Release Is My Exam Based On?

Understanding which release your exam aligns to can help you prepare more effectively.

  • Before the Exam Maintenance Window
All mainline certification exams are based on the Yokohama release.
  • During the Exam Maintenance Window
Exams are unavailable while they are being upgraded from Yokohama to Zurich.
  • After the Exam Maintenance Window
All mainline certification exams are based on the Zurich release.

This ensures that mainline certification exams always reflect the current active release once maintenance is complete. If you completed training on the previous release, be sure to review any release specific updates before taking the exam.

Good to Know

Previously, when exams were delivered through Webassessor, Exam Maintenance Windows often lasted one to two weeks. With the transition to Pearson VUE via ServiceNow University, this downtime has been significantly reduced.

For the Zurich release, the Exam Maintenance Window is just two days! A big improvement that helps minimize disruption.

I recommend planning your certification attempts accordingly and scheduling exams either before or after the maintenance window to avoid any inconvenience. And of course: Don't wait until the last minute to schedule your exams!

Thanks. This is helpful. I was planning to sit for the exam on January 15th, but I will need to change that date.
