If you have two separate domains eg. IT & OT and these are not identified in the CMDB and you want to report on them. Any suggestions on the best way to implement this?

Hi Sheree,
I'm a bit confused re: "two separate domains" in relations to ServiceNow. Do you have a separate ServiceNow instance for each domain? ...or is the data combined within a singular instance of ServiceNow?

We want to identify assets in two segregated domains. All IOT devices are totally separated and we don't have a field in SNOW identifying whether they are IT or OT; they are ALSO currently mixed across both domains, but some are identified in the FQDN as ot.com or item.com. Is there a better option of creating a custom field for the two different options?
We want to filter between both device types to highlight which incidents are caused by which category.

In general, I would add a field, you want to push the logic to store your data (in a new custom field) instead of calculating on the fly which can be computationally intensive.

Hi, when do you use a Data Source vs Table?

Hi Brenda,
Use report sources for reports containing the same conditions, so you do not have to define the conditions more than once. You can also use report sources to implement the same definitions across your organisation.

A predefined Data Source can also be helpful to provide to project members that need to create reports, but might not be as familiar with ServiceNow table structure.

One of the things I found helpful when I was learning ServiceNow is that if you have a question it's mostly likely been asked in the community. If you post a new question you can often get a response within the hour from either customers who have done it or from ServiceNow employees.
