If you have two separate domains eg. IT & OT and these are not identified in the CMDB and you want to report on them. Any suggestions on the best way to implement this?

Adam Stout

Can you explain your use case in a little more detail?  What are you trying to report on?

Hi Sheree,

I'm a bit confused re: "two separate domains" in relations to ServiceNow.  Do you have a separate ServiceNow instance for each domain?  ...or is the data combined within a singular instance of ServiceNow?

Tom

We want to identify assets in two segregated domains. All IOT devices are totally separated and we don't have a field in SNOW identifying whether they are IT or OT; they are ALSO currently mixed across both domains, but some are identified in the FQDN as ot.com or item.com. Is there a better option of creating a custom field for the two different options?

We want to filter between both device types to highlight which incidents are caused by which category.

Hello! I am Betty. I have worked with SN for the last 4 years. Thanks for this Report Lab - I am hoping to hone my skills so I can better serve my customers.

Where do you get the slides being presented?

Sheree2
Kilo Explorer

No we only have one SNOW instance. We have Security layers in place between OT & IT.

Someone asked: "In the first list filter we chose incident state but in the second lab we are using state. Which is best practice?"

In general, I would add a field, you want to push the logic to store your data (in a new custom field) instead of calculating on the fly which can be computationally intensive.

Here is a more detailed discussion on this topic:  https://community.servicenow.com/community?id=community_blog&sys_id=2f99990fdbee5b00fece0b55ca9619fb

Hi, when do you use a Data Source vs Table?

Lener Pacania1
ServiceNow Employee

Hi Brenda,

Use report sources for reports containing the same conditions, so you do not have to define the conditions more than once. You can also use report sources to implement the same definitions across your organisation.

A predefined Data Source can also be helpful to provide to project members that need to create reports, but might not be as familiar with ServiceNow table structure.

One of the things I found helpful when I was learning ServiceNow is that if you have a question it's mostly likely been asked in the community.   If you post a new question you can often get a response within the hour from either customers who have done it or from ServiceNow employees.

Hey just a question regarding the Dashboard created in Build a real-time single score visual.    When i went to the dashboard i saw two priority-type widgets  1. Incident Category  2. Incident Priority.   I do not recall creating these, but i like them.  How and when were those places on the Dashboard.     final question: how do i create these?   very valuable -thx

Cody Rasmussen

Trainer is showing it now.  those two interactive widgets.  how did they get on the Dashboard?  are they are 'widget" I can select?
