Hello Team,
I need your guidance on my next career step in the ServiceNow domain.
I have over 4 years of experience in IT Asset Management and IT Service Management, including experience with ServiceNow, ManageEngine AssetExplorer, and ServiceDesk Plus. My key areas include hardware and non-IT asset management, asset lifecycle management, CMDB data management, inventory reconciliation, and asset audits.
I want to advance my career in ServiceNow IT Asset Management.
Considering my experience, which certification should I pursue next: ServiceNow CSA, CMDB/CSDM, or Hardware Asset Management (HAM)?
Please recommend the best certification and practical skills I should focus on to advance my career in ServiceNow IT Asset Management.
Thank you.

Hi @jadhavcj150,
With 4+ years in ITAM/ITSM and hands-on CMDB data work, I would go in this order:
1. CSA first. It has no prerequisite exam, and it covers the platform basics every implementation-specialist exam builds on: database management and platform security, data migration and integration, and self-service and automation.
2. Then CIS-Data Foundations (CMDB and CSDM). It matches your CMDB data management and reconciliation experience directly. It also opens more doors than HAM alone: CIS-ITSM now lists CIS-Data Foundations as its prerequisite.
3. Then Hardware Asset Management, the one closest to the role you want. Check its exam page on ServiceNow University for the current prerequisites and required training before you book.
Why this order: asset management in ServiceNow leans heavily on the CMDB (asset-to-CI relationships, reconciliation, discovery data), so CSA and CMDB/CSDM first make the HAM material much easier to absorb. Together the three tell a clear ITAM story on your profile.
Good luck!

Hi @jadhavcj150
CSA, CIS-ITSM and CIS-DF is basic requirement - these are the certifications everybody that is working with ServiceNow should have.
If my answer has helped with your question, please mark my answer as the accepted solution and give a thumbs up.

Hello @jadhavcj150 ,
I would suggest first CSA then CIS-DF and then HAM .
CSA :Start here if you do not already hold the Certified System Administrator certification. It establishes knowledge of the platform, tables, forms, access controls, and configuration.
CIS-DF :Learn how configuration items, relationships, data quality, identification, and reconciliation work. This complements your experience with inventory reconciliation and CMDB data management.
HAM :Make this your main specialization. Focus on the complete hardware asset lifecycle, procurement,asset-to-CI relationships .
If this helps you then mark it as helpful and accept as solution.
Regards,
Aditya

hi @jadhavcj150
As per my suggestion, go for HAM and CSDM that aligns with your expertise.
