What is preserve and exclude while cloning

Is it necessary to preserve or exclude tables while cloning . I am new to cloning if someone can explain why they are important and what we need to do ?

In ServiceNow, Data Preservers protect specific existing records on a target instance from being overwritten during a clone, while Clone Exclusions prevent data from a source instance table from being copied over, typically leaving the target table empty

Yes, normally cloning is done during an upgrade or in case of failure in the sub-production environment. When no preserves or exclusions are specified, then everything is cloned as it is. But there are some instance-specific configurations in our instance, such as Discovery Credentials, OAuth Credentials, etc., that must be cloned with care. Also, the user permissions in the sub-production and production environment are not same; they should retain post-clone. This is the reason we use preserves/exclusions while cloning.
