Knowledge Graph is a ServiceNow AI Platform feature that is active by default when the Generative AI for Business Unit is installed. It enhances data connectivity and user experience by enabling semantic data representation and integration with large language models (LLMs) and Virtual Agent.
New Features
- Knowledge Graph Schema Testing: You can enter queries and test Knowledge Graph schemas using various LLM options, including adding previous conversations to contextualize queries.
- Prebuilt Schemas and Integrations:
- Yokohama introduced a new NLQ graph schema and user profile schema.
- Knowledge Graph now integrates prebuilt with Now Assist Virtual Agent for personalized responses and slot filling using natural language queries.
- Prebuilt integrations with Now Assist AI agents allow personalized user context and task execution.
- Zurich Enhancements:
- Enterprise Graph schema: A comprehensive, pre-configured schema mapping all instance tables for broad natural language query capabilities without custom schema creation.
- Tagging in Knowledge Graph Designer: Tags prioritize key tables to improve query accuracy and performance.
- Expanded LLM provider support: Choose from Now LLM Service, Azure OpenAI GPT-4.1 variants, Google Gemini 2.0 and 2.5, and AWS Anthropic Claude 3.7 Sonnet under ServiceNow’s third-party model strategy.
- Workflow Data Fabric Integration: Admins can create Knowledge Graph schemas incorporating Workflow Data Fabric tables, enabling secure and efficient queries across external systems without data movement.
- Support for Hierarchical Nodes and CMDB Queries: Nodes from parent and grandparent hierarchies are supported, along with Configuration Management Database (CMDB) queries accessible via Now Assist panel.
- Aggregate Queries: Knowledge Graph now supports aggregate queries to enable advanced data summarization.
Changes
- Now Assist Usage Measurement: Starting from Yokohama Patch 5 and continuing in Zurich Patch 5, usage measurement shifted from a 365-day look-back to a 365-day burn-down model that resets at the contract anniversary date, affecting how usage is tracked and reported.
- Default Activation of Some Now Assist Skills: New customers get certain Now Assist skills enabled by default. For existing customers upgrading from Yokohama Patch 11 onward, unconfigured skills are enabled automatically while previously toggled off skills remain inactive.
Activation and Requirements
- Knowledge Graph is enabled by default upon installation.
- Ensure your instance is upgraded to at least the XP7 release to support Knowledge Graph features.
Practical Impact for ServiceNow Customers
- You can leverage prebuilt schemas and broad LLM integrations to enhance conversational AI and data querying capabilities without extensive custom development.
- The Enterprise Graph schema simplifies setup by eliminating the need for custom schema creation, and tagging improves query relevance and performance for specific use cases.
- Integration with Workflow Data Fabric enables secure cross-system queries, maintaining data governance while extending Knowledge Graph functionality.
- Upgraded usage measurement for Now Assist requires awareness for accurate usage tracking and license management.
- Aggregate query support and hierarchical node capabilities enhance the complexity and depth of queries you can perform.
