How Ndlovu and ServiceNow are elevating digital healthcare

What started as a one-time donation blossomed into a unique collaboration between ServiceNow, the Tjommie Foundation, and the South African Ndlovu Care Group. The partnership has continued to develop.

We recently spoke with Lourens Duvenhage, who took over as CEO from founder Hugo Tempelman a few years ago. He told us about the transformation Ndlovu is undergoing—one in which the ServiceNow AI Platform plays a key role by helping to make digital healthcare more measurable, efficient, and future-proof.

From fieldwork to real-time insights

The structural partnership is built on technology. Ndlovu uses the ServiceNow AI Platform to digitise and monitor healthcare and development programs in real time. This enables fieldworkers to operate more effectively, gives management direct insight into progress, and offers donors a clear view of results.

“The NGO world is competitive. Without technology to demonstrate your impact, fundraising becomes increasingly difficult,” Duvenhage says. “With ServiceNow, we can show at a glance what we do, where, and what it achieves.”

Tangible impact in youth care

Following the success of the first app for Ndlovu’s nutrition program, the organisation fully integrated its disability program into the ServiceNow AI Platform.

The Ndlovu Community Rehabilitation Centre supports around 90 young people with intellectual or physical disabilities. The app aids intake, progress tracking, and reporting—making the care process transparent and measurable.

The program offers young people physical therapy, guidance, and access to practical skills such as woodworking, farming, and making concrete blocks. “This leads to something remarkable,” Duvenhage says. “Young people who were once seen as a burden due to their disability are now actively contributing to their communities—sometimes even as the sole breadwinner in the household.”

Training youth as developers

Ndlovu applies a cradle-to-career approach, guiding children from a young age towards independence. Duvenhage explains: “In collaboration with ServiceNow, young people are being trained as certified ServiceNow developers. Our ambition? A dedicated offshore development centre in South Africa that leverages local IT talent and enables the organisation to become digitally self-sufficient.”

Digital solutions with global value

The partnership is made possible in part by ServiceNow.org—the branch of ServiceNow that supports non-profits worldwide with access to technology, guidance, and strategic collaboration. Together with IT partner FlyForm and

local experts, Ndlovu is digitising its processes in a way that truly serves real-world needs.

“What makes this approach special is its scalability,” Duvenhage says. “The applications Ndlovu is now using for programs like the disability initiative are being developed in ways that make them applicable to other NGOs around the world. From healthcare and nutrition to youth development, this approach has the potential for global impact.”

In collaboration with Tjommie and ServiceNow, Ndlovu is driving social progress using technology. Ndlovu’s care is now digital, and it’s faster, more transparent, and more effective—a true leap forward in quality and transparency.
