Hi All,
I’m developing a custom application in ServiceNow and would appreciate guidance on implementing a free trial-to-subscription model.
Use Case:
- The application will be published on the ServiceNow Store.
- The trial period should begin automatically when the app is installed from the Store.
- The trial should provide full access to both the Service Portal (frontend) and the backend tables.
- After the 1-month trial period, access to both the frontend and backend should be automatically restricted.
- Once the customer purchases a subscription, access to the application should be restored seamlessly.
Request for Guidance:
I’m looking for advice or best practices on how to implement this in ServiceNow, specifically:
- How to trigger the trial period from the installation date
- Managing time-based access control (both UI and data access)
- Best way to restrict and restore access based on subscription status
- Whether this should be handled via licensing framework, roles, or custom logic
If anyone has implemented a similar model or can point me to documentation or strategies, I’d greatly appreciate the guidance.
Thank you in advance!
Best regards,
Ritu

Hi @ritudange,
Could you please review the “Publishing, Distributing, and Selling Through the ServiceNow App Store” section? Your requirement needs to be addressed in the publisher portal, and ServiceNow will handle the app restrictions. Reading this document will provide a clear understanding.
