Personal Developer Instances (PDIs) are free, limited-resource sandboxes which you can explore.
e.g Any AI feature (Now Assist , Agentic AI) you can not explore there.
PDI is reclaimed (terminated/reset) if they remain inactive for a period of 10 days.
Again for lots of Servicenow Courses in Servicenow University ( onDemand/Simulator, Instance is provided by ServiceNow.
There specific plugin is already installed (course wise). That also you can utilize for specific learning.

even i am new in service now and as guided by @Dr Atul G- LNG , yes, you can PDI and do the hands on. you can lab pratice there.
but again if u will not use for long time , may be you will get reminder email reated to PDI that is going to terminate. please keep using. alredy @Tanushree Maiti mentioned about this well explained.

Just PDI it, Your best friend!
For making real progress, imho, Try PDI weekly for atleast 3 sessions of whatever you consider as deepwork (imo 3hr per session), also some nice info already given by many fellow learners here.
